Do you celebrate your name-day? (poll)

Reading too much ASoIAF there, Marty?

Were name days in there? I don't remember, its been nearly 2 years since I read the first 3 novels. Speaking of aSoIaF, I'll probably reread the first three right before the 4th one comes out. Can't wait for that, especially after WoT #10 was such a dispointment...

Anywhoo, a nameday is the birthday/death of the saint your were named after. Mine would be on April 14th(link). They're pretty big where I'm from, and other Slavic countries...

Eh, guess there aren't any saints named Scott. 😉

in grade school i remember a boy celebrating his name day. his parents were greek so either it's a greek thing, a european thing, an orthodox religion thing...

i wasn't named after a saint, i was named after a character in my mom's fave movie (gone with the wind). my eldest sister was named after a character in my mom's fave soap opera. so perhaps i should celebrate the oscars? 😉

Sheeit my birthday is intentionally a non-event. And I just don't much care for my real name and have considered legally changing it to Mith. Alright there.

mexicans have calenders with the names of saints written on each day...it used to be the norm whatever day you were born that was your saint and theyd name u after that saint.

they still publish these claenders every year

Yes Marty. They were mentioned quite a bit in ASoIAF. If you'll remember a lot of the chapters were written from the point of view of some little kids between 10 and 14. They seemed to care a lot about what "Nameday Presents" they had received or would receive, just as any little kid would, so that word got used a lot.
