I only own one card and only carry one card. Who needs more? I have 1 debit card I need to get renewed though.

The people who have 30+ card (I have 4) get them for the rewards received upon opening the account. I have not gotten less than $150 each for my accounts.

But, why would one keep more than 2-3 credit cards open?

And what cards give you $150+ for opening an account?

I have two credit cards and I carry both, plus I have my ATM card (which is also a debit card, but I never use it as one).

I have one other CC account, but I do not even have the card for it. I just closed on my refi, so I think I can close that CC without any negative repercussions.

My wife also has a couple store CCs.

You keep them open because it increases you credit to debt ratio and account history length. This, in turn, increases your credit score.

As for CCs that give you money for opening the count, browse the slickdeal and fatwallet finance forums. Some current offerings are the Citi PremierPass cards. On one of the cards, you spend $575($500 purchases, $75 annual fee) and they give you enough points for $225 in gift cards. Sell them on an ebay, and you have a net of around $150.

There used to be better offers, such as $250 for just signing to the chase freedom card and making a single purchase.

2 of different brands in case a store doesn't accept one.

I also usually carry a third when I'm working on some sort of spending promo...

I've got maybe 10 credit cards by now, only carry 3 with me, personal amex, personal mastercard if the place doesn't accept amex, and a business amex card.

Everything else are cards I don't use anymore (got a replacement Discover card last week, won't even bother to activate it), or store cards, Best Buy, Circuit City, Tweeter, etc. and I only use them when there's a no interest offer on large purchases. Just paid off my hdtv last month, have 2 more years to pay off the stereo system. I have enough money to pay it off right now, but I just don't want to. :D I might have canceled the ones I don't use, but I'm always on hold for 10+ minutes waiting for a rep, so I hang up and forget about it for another year.

I carry 1 out of 2 cards with me. For all these people with 10 or more cards, why do you need so many? Is it because you get all those department store cards?

I have five credit cards and 1 debit card.

I carry my one debit card(MC)
1 Citi MC and 1 AMEX.

I only use my citicard and it's the only one with a balance on it. The Amex is for backup.
