My health is fine, I eat good food, and the air I breathe is for the most part pretty clean. I am also not depressed.

You must live in a cesspool.

Where the hell do you reside wchou? Air's alright here, most people around here recycle, streets are clean. Got to say that Mother Nature seems alright from here.

I do and wish our mass media would cover more of the pollution but of course they dont. What about failing air standards, clean air and water act that is being debated? I HIGHLY recommend www.scorecard.org to check out your own zipcode's enviroment situation.

I care about the environment. I don't go all crazy trying to protect it, but I try not to make it any worse than it already is.

Heh, I can't honestly think of anything I've done to "better" the environment. Hell, I don't even recycle.

You live in CA and you think your air is clean? Wow... ..well San Jose isn't that bad but it isn't all that great either.

where abouts are you? I do "care" about the environment, but caring isn't going to do much, I suppose.

And a quote from that article:

"The air in the US and in other rich countries is irrefutably safer to breathe."

That's just incorrect. I mean...what is he comparing the air quality to? The 1920's? Industrially...we may not pollute as bad as we used to...but the statement that this guy makes about the environment getting better is absurd.

Go to LA and look at the nice clean air. Hell...even Bakersfield here has begun to get really really horrible smog.

We produce TONS upon TONS of waste products....companies make wastefull containers for products in order to advertise them more. This is not good for the environment. Sure...we can recycle...but nobody does that really.

Food...I'm not worried about the amount of food. The quality is a lot worse in some respects, and also better in others...so it's kind of a wash there.

I'm not saying it's all wrong...but he's not all right either.

Here's my FACT about air quality being worse and not being better:

When I was growing up...I could clearly see the mountains on most days...I now live a half an hour CLOSER to the mountains and can rarely see them...only after a rain has cleared smog out or a winter storm come through and blown it all away. They dissappear a day or two later. If air is getting better...why can't I see my mountains?

I don't think you know what "environmental" problems really are. The air is fine here, food is not so bad, and my health is fine, but those things have nothing to do with the environment as a whole. The real global problem is the loss of biodiversity. We are gradually destroying three and a half billion years of evolution which for some reason has little inherent value to most people.

There are currently two myths:
1)That clean air and water is all we need to worry about. Pollution is a minor issue-- the particulates from your car are irrelevant. Americans don't understand this, and so they don't like diesel.
2) The "environment" is screwed. This misconception causes people to care less than they would if they realized what's left to save.
