We get PTO and it doesn't matter the reason. Any reason is a legitimate reason.

I have no sick days, only PTO. US corporate structure over the last decade has shifted away from vacation, sick time, etc. to PTO - Paid Time Off. Of course, the number of days of PTO is less than sick time, vacation, etc. when added together.

We still have separate vacation, sick, bereavement, maternity, etc. They used to roll over, but over the last few years they put caps on everything. It also appears we can't cash out sick days when we leave.

That's the point of PTO. Everything was lumped into one basket called PTO. It's easier for the corporation to keep track of and you can use it for any and all reasons. However, there has been a shift to far fewer PTO days than the addition of ALL the other previous days given (vacation, sick, bereavement, etc.). You use all of your PTO and get sick, tough luck. You can be off but without pay.

I can't recall ever calling in sick. So, no.

We have PTO. But the culture at my work is that when you're sick you work from home instead of taking the day of. I tend to just take a day off when I want one though.
