Not all the time but just here and there.

Reminds me how when I was living in FL I bought myself one and my friend was with me so I bought him one just for the hell of it (it's only $1), and of course he won $50 and I didn't get anything 🙁

It seems like you would have a better chance when the pot is smaller, and it is STILL a lot of money.

I do it because that's the only time I think about purchasing them. I'm on the freeway and see that big sign with the huge current jackpot and think "wow that's a lot of money, I should grab a few tickets." Otherwise it's just not something I go out of my way to do.

i've spent $100k over 10yrs. it's for fun/entertainment.

Edit:
wait.. wrong thread.. thought i was replying to the hookers + blow thread.

i play when the jackpot is 200M+ because the secretary starts a lottery pool.
$5 twice a week. max we've won was $100 in the yrs that we've been doing it, and the $ was reinvested to the next drawing.

I voted No....because generally, I don't.

The exception is Xmas. I buy them as stocking stuffers. They're fun for novelty and keeping dreams alive. 😉

fail probability much?

I think my vote registered as yes even though I tried clicking the no box. Oh well. Guess I'll have to start buying lottery tickets; I don't want a javascript error to make me a liar.

I used to be a cashier in a small local store and would goad the patrons into buying scratch tickets until the rolls were hot as hell and then proceed to clean up or at the very least break even. Came out way the hell ahead in the long run.

I usually throw down for the big pots when I see them advertised and I'll play Keno if I go to a bar that has it. I much prefer casino gambling to lotto tickets though.

Very rarely - only when the jackpot is huge, and never more than one ticket. Buying 2 tickets doesn't increase the entertainment value a bit. I used to make fun of a group of my coworkers who purchased lotto tickets as a group. They each kicked in $5 or $10 per week, just to play lotto. I flamed them plenty of times for the practice. Lucky bastards won last year. Of course, it wasn't the grand prize; only the second prize. After taking it as cash, paying taxes (which was a nightmare for them to figure out - NY wouldn't divide it over that many people), etc., it only amounted to about $3k each.

Not just no, but hell no. I'm already required to pay way too many taxes, so why would I voluntarily pay one more? 😕

1. because the amount is negligible
2. because unlike other taxes you actually have a microscopic chance of seeing a return on your money

2 tix cuts your odds of winning by 1/2! best bang for the buck.

diminishing returns on anything over $2.
