Do you break the water rule?

When I was a poor highschool student I prefered the garbage can trick. Find an empty or nearly empty soda cup on top of or if nesscesary inside of the garbage bin and refill it with soda. This also works at the movie theatre with Supersize Soda's and Popcorn which are refillable. Bear in mind it is wise to check the soda cup for foreign objects before asking for the refill, or else you may fumble for a response when asked why there is a dirty bandaid and used up chewing gum in the cup.

No, I actually don't like the taste of soda. I just get water.

Although in Ohio, I used to sometimes get food to go on the rare occasiona and eat it there b/c it was not taxed, if I only had like 5 dollars on me and with tax it would have been over 5. Didn't feel too bad about that, it didn't harm the business really, only the state.

I've had a few customers do this from time to time in my stores. Our policy is to embarrass them as much as possible by loudly pointing out the fact that the FREE water cups are not for soda.

Food to go wasn't taxed, where as food "for here" was? I've never heard of that before.

Do you look for used gum to chew under tables too?

This is just gross.

There's no tap water in fountain drinks. It's mixed syrup and carbonated water, both of which come pre-packaged from the distributor.

And no, I don't break the "water rule." That would be stealing. And pretty pathetic to boot.

You better get a clue. ALL soda fountains use filtered tap water.

What do you think they use in the soda at the fountains? Pixie water? Nope, filtered tap water. The SAME water you would drink if you just had tap water.

I wonder how many more people are going to correct him before the subject is adequately covered?

Right on. That's because it doesn't happen. Sometimes it's shipped premixed, usually in 5 gallon reusable tanks, but that's usually only used for portable applications, like at outdoor food tents, or "The Roach Coach."

Restaurants and convenience stores will almost always have a chiller/carbonator that just pumps CO2 gas into the local tap water, after it's run through a particulate/charcoal filter (kind of like a heavy duty kitchen faucet filter). Then, the pop syrup and the chilled/carbonated water mix right inside the fountain nozzle when you press the fill button or lever.

No, but my cheap roomate does. I call him a cheap thief everytime he does. His whole family is like that, such scum.

I take it a step further, I go into the bathroom and clean it out with hot soapy water! 😉

So, that's not only cheap theft, but it's disgusting too.

Yuck. Just pay for your damn soda, or else drink your water and enjoy your cheapo fast food meal.

Thanks 🙂

Actually, the fast food restaurants I worked in years ago didn't used filtered tap water. Don't know what to say but I had to change them out all the time. The distributor drops off 2 different kinds of boxes (actually like thick plastic bags inside a rectangular cardboard box). One was syrup and the other was carbonated water. No CO2 canisters. Hook 'em up and go.
Sorry if I'm "so damned ignorant," I just know what I've seen. Maybe they've changed in the last 10 years... Thanks for correcting me so politely.
