Do you believe that we have a right to happiness?

I don't believe that we have a right to happiness. I believe that we have a choice to pursue happiness if we choose. At what cost do you pursue happiness? Do you spend money to become happy? What if a coworker/friend annoys you? Do you hurt their feelings in order to keep yourself happy?

When you come into this world the only thing you have a right to is dying. Everything else you have to earn on your own.

When does someone else's happiness come before your own?

Let's say that two people are married, one wants out, and the other wants to stay together. If the one that wants out leaves, then it will hurt the other one.

Let's say that you are a volunteer in Lousianna helping with the hurricaine clean up. Helping those in need makes them happy, but you may not be happy doing the work.

yes, you have a right to happiness, but you have to make it yours. having the right doesn't mean it is going to be given to you.

Making my own happiness feels selfish. I treat other people the way I want to be treated, and then they give happiness back to me.

usually if you're a good person and you deserve it, things can go right for you and you're just happy.

then again, sometimes the nice guys get crapped on. i don't know. i'm a little confused by your question. context?

Nice guys finish last, right? So do you intentionally harm other people to make your own life better, or do you just work hard and hope that your work is better than others?

Saying you have the right to happiness means saying that you have the right to a Good Job, Good friends, and an overall good life.
Life is what you make of it, not what you have a right to.

Of course you don't have a right to happiness. You have the right to very few things in this world, to say otherwise is ignorant. You have the right to life, then, once that is secured, liberty, then the pursuit of happiness.

i still say you have a right to happiness, and feeling that it is right for you to be unhappy just so others can be happy is wrong.

Selfish? Considering happiness is percieved I suppose you can say it is selfish. Notice how you can be happy about a situation, and someone else can be unhappy about the same situation? They see it differently. People don't always reciprocate when something is given to them, especially "happiness". Happiness isn't something you're given.

i just hope for the best. i don't intentionally harm other people... quite conversely i go out of my way to make sure people around me are generally happy. if someone around me looks down, or upset, you can bet that if they are receptive to me trying to help them out, that's what i'll do. it all comes back around anyway. so when i'm down, someone will be there to pick me up, i hope.

So who do I sue when I have a bad day?

Happiness is not a right.
Healthcare is not a right
Education is not a right
Driving is not a right.

There are very few rights that are truly inalienable and Jefferson nailed it.

With 12-13% of the country below the poverty line and billions more around the world only able to dream of being a poor American, you'd better get to work if you want everyone to be happy.

Amen.

Happiness is subjective. How can anyone have the right to something subjective.

what the?

since when did happiness get clumped into the same group as healthcare, education and driving?
they are not similar entities.

what i am trying to convey is EVERYONE has a RIGHT to be happy. that is how i mean it when i say you have the right.
