Mine is a life filled with some amazing coincidences. But I still can't wrap my mind around an "orchestra conductor" of life. Who knows.

Is this question inherently religious?

I voted no. S hit happens for no good reason.

I scrape my wheel on a curb, there's no good reason for that.

hmm.

it doesnt really.

I guess i read the question funny originally.
I meant everything happens for a reason in the cause and effect form, not because "something" said you're going to get in an accident today, etc.

that's a resounding NO. Sh!t happens as a result of other things happening. There's no reasoning behind it - who would decide ? If you point to the man upstairs, I will just say that He is twisted then.

"Yeah, let's make this guy go nuts and put his car on the train tracks... I feel like fvcking up some people's morning commute today."

In the context of your question, no.

But yes, of course everything "happens for a reason".

The reason you scraped your wheel on a curb is because you turned your steering wheel too far and your rim made contact with the solid we know as concrete. :p

Please refer to any of the zillion "do you believe in god?" threads. Same question, same answer.

No. I can sorta get behind the idea of a "big plan," but the idea that each and every single thing that happens is pre-ordained and part of this "plan" is just beyond me.

As in a higher power purposely intended for a family of 4 to die in a head on crash because a drunk driver drove into their lane? No.

"Do what you can, with what you have, where you are." -Theodore Roosevelt

Maybe we're all freewheeling on a petri dish named Earth, or maybe there's really a grand design for us, but either way this is all we can do.

Well maybe scraping your wheel on the curb causes you to stop and pull over to see what the dammage is. If you didn't scrape the wheel, you wouldn't have stopped and maybe you would have been killed by some drunk driver or someone running a red light a few seconds/minutes later.

No. The world, and the universe, are chaotic, and good and evil take no notice of fate or coincidence, each striking with equal randomness and frivolity.

I do think it important that people find meaning in their lives, however, and come to terms with the random pains that do occur.

It's not the same Q. People can believe in God, but don't think he's an "orchestra conductor" of life.

I don't feel all things happen for reasons.

edit: the flip side is also incorrect. There are people who believe in a higher power that does orchestrate life, but don't call that power "God."

Yes everything happens for a reason. No I don't think it necessarily is due to some grand plan. The explanation could be scientific as well. I don't believe it total randomness of behavior or physics beyond the atomic level.

I don't believe in destiny or some elaborate absurdly complex plan. I do find the idea very entertaining from an artistic standpoint. I also like it when simple things result in complex webbings of relationships. Which is why Inarritu is one of my favorite directors.

I believe in fate, in destiny. Too many good things that shouldn't have happened have, happened to me. They wouldn't have happened without bad things. This is how I choose to perceive it.
