Isn't it only modern society that says it's "wrong"?

I must admit I detest younger people/teenagers, since they're all ego/narcissism and no substance. i am not old myself (I'm 25) but nonetheless I may seem hypocritical given my age. Moreover, people are hypocritical, get over it.. 😎

+1. Prejudices are based on past experience. If you aren't willing to change them over time and aren't able to treat people as individuals (rather than representatives of their group) then it becomes a problem.

It's the why that is important.

In your case perhaps you hate the way you or someone you know behaved at that age and so you project that dislike onto other people that fit your percieved criteria without adequate information to accurately pass such a judgement.

For all you know the seemingly self absorbed douchenozzles you despise could play the cello and dote on their ailing grandmother whilst finding time to nurse injured baby eagles back to health.

Yeah it is pretty unrealistic to not have prejudices considering our brains are basically wired to work that way. It is the people that lack development in the more advanced parts of the brain keeping the primal parts in check, and are acting on it, causes others to have excessive guilt for having perfectly normal prejudice.
 
People hold prejudices because they make dealing with other people easier. I don't have the time or inclination to loving plumb the depths of every person's soul so that I might know them all as individuals. More often than not, people will fit into some rough categorization or another. For instance, I find it useful to know that most black people like to buy brightly colored clothes and footwear. Often I will show them those kinds of items first at my store, and I'm mostly correct. My pre-judgement of their tastes often helps everyone get what they want faster. That's not negative prejudice, but the negative prejudices I have about black people are based on just the same kind personal experience that has largely proved itself to be accurate. You can't rely on one and ignore the other. One negative prejudice I have about black people is that I think they more likely to insist on a special pricing discount and also return used items for frivolous reasons. For that reason I often steel myself to deny them if I have to. I have similar prejudices against old white women as I do black people. They are usually finicky about minor things and extremely critical of prices that are higher than they were around 1950.

All of these prejudices help me more than they hurt me, because they are accurate on average.
 
I honestly try not to prejudge people, but the minute they do something stereotypical, it all just automatically kicks in 🙁
 
When I was in retails sales and commission i prejudged the shit out of people.

I would out avoid demographic X, Y and Z and go for A, B and C.

There is always the people that say, well that Z just made me 200 dollars in 10 mins, but when you sell to 50 people a day, its a numbers game and rule of averages. And my stereotyping ass always won that game
 
The best example of how people are subjective about "prejudice": In 2008, if you voted against Obama because of his color, you were racist. If you voted for him BECAUSE of his color (and many people did), that means you were prejudiced against the white guy because of HIS skin color... yet that was considered heroic, not prejudiced.

Before anyone who did vote for someone because of skin color can answer that though, they would need to figure out if they were racist (voted for Hillary in the primary) or sexist (voted for Obama). Either way, you're prejudiced. you just haven't admitted to it yet.
