Nuclear reactor + tons of time + very small space capsule

If there is no friction in the vacuum of space why wouldn't a rocket continuously burning simply keep going faster, and faster, and faster...

It doesn't matter how fast you accelerate or for how long you will never move faster than light. When you decide to stop accelerating you will notice that light is still moving away form you at the speed of light. And that you are still moving below the speed of light when compared to your starting frame of reference.

Is faster than the speed of light possible? Absolutely. Will our species ever obtain it? I wouldn't bet on it.

Yeah but the Japanese were successful in altering the genes of roses to turn them blue. So making golden egg laying goose shouldn't be an issue.

I meant literal gold, and I meant it would come out your butt.:sneaky:

We're not talking about filling up duck innards with food coloring here.

Do you have anything to back up your claim that something will move through space faster than the speed of light?

Wormholes or warping space time and going through it. Possible not likely

Yeah you may be able to use exotic methods to travel from one point in space to another faster than light would. But you can't travel through space at faster than c.

Will we travel faster than the speed of light? I dunno.
Will we be able to go from Point A to Point B faster than Light can travel there? Maybe.

Time will tell. The only thing I would say is: Those who say it is impossible are likely wrong.

The best option at this point is quantum entangled audio, pictures or video. We could send probes to planets that might have life and actually exchange ideas with them at instantaneous speeds.

Only if we figure out a way to send information through quantum entanglement.

yes definitely! and with free energy as well!!!

it's all about vortex maths, and the roden coil...

Note: whether it be all of space itself or any of space itself or both
space itself can both be moved at literally any speed and also move at literally any speed.

Yes space itself moves faster than the speed of light. All of space that is outside of the visible portion is moving away from us at >c.

This is incorrect. You are moving faster than the speed of light right now. Relative to someone outside of the observable universe you are moving faster than the speed of light away from them, and they are moving faster than the speed of light from you.

Not through space, space it's self is expanding faster than the speed of light.

just because it has not been done yet...does not mean that it is not possible...

For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. I think this space ship would only ever be able to achieve, at most, the speed at which the propellent leaves the rocket engine.

I don't see why it wouldn't be possible. At this point we still don't know EVERYTHING about our universe. I don't see it happening anytime in the imaginable future since our technology in terms of "fuel" is pretty stagnate, but if there's a will there's a way. As others have said, I think this would be the most difficult method assuming there are other options available.

Sound and light are...in a way (i know someones going to go nuts over this) the same "thing": A waveform.

This one really brought all the physics n00bs to the yard.

You're more likely to see AI given persons' rights in your lifetime than you are to see anything move from A to B faster than light could go from A to B (in a vacuum).

If you simply try to accelerate, it does not matter for how long or by how much. You will never reach the speed of light, it is impossible.

Sound and light are only alike in that they can be looked at as waves. The main difference is that light has no mass. Light moves at the same speed in every inertial frame of reference.

No matter how long and how much we accelerate by it we will NEVER reach the speed of like. With respect to your ship, you could accelerate at 10g's for a billion years. You still won't reach the speed of light. And when you stop accelerating light will still be moving away from you at the speed of light.

How fast is the earth moving? With respect to it's self it's velocity is 0, with respect to some distant galaxy it's .99c, or something else it's .3c,..... It's all relative, there is no absolute speed that the earth is moving at.

OK, so your traveling faster than the speed of light and you turn on your headlights, what happens??
