Do you believe in reincarnation?

I've often wondered about it myself. If our spirits are immortal, do we jump from life to life? Some people seem to have an affinity for other cultures. Could they have lived in that culture in a past life? If so, why don't we remember anything from past lives?

I've been thinking about this a lot lately because my gf is extremely distraught about dying. She thinks that once it's over, we'll never see each other again. I want to comfort her, but I really don't know what to say. 🙁

What do you all think?

Different strokes for different folks. A lot of people believe in an afterlife just because the prospect of there not being one is too depressing. Ultimately I guess it boils down to whether a "soul" can trascend death, and that opens up the whole religious debate can o' worms.

You should boil it a bit longer: there's namely no way to prove that something like a 'soul' even exists. That's the whole issue with things like an 'afterlife' and reincarnation: something which is transferred from the old body to the new one, or to some mysterious place and carries the personality and memories of an organism.

Well, I don't think you can destroy energy but I have no clue what happens to the enerygy contained within us when we die, lol, hopefully we just stream into a phat pipe someplace.

i don't, but even if it really happened would it make any difference? i mean you could spend a whole new life having sex with all new girls but you'd never know about all the other girls you had in your past life so what's the point?

Taken from a PM session I had with another ATOT'er one night.

"If you want to know what I think happens when you die, I'll be happy to tell you!

The human brain works on energy (chemically produced electricity) Energy (according to Einstein) be changed but not destroyed.

I think "Heaven" is the mass collection of all the energy that went before us and all that will come.
Does this energy retain some form of consciousness? I would like to think so. Is Jesus there? No doubt!

I also thing that GOD is the SAME as "Heaven" the collected consciousness of all the beings that ever lived. I think Hell is the frame of mind you carry with you after death. As is heaven. If you die in the right state of mind, you spend eternity in heaven, if not hell.

On a sort of related topic. If you ever get the chance, read "the Tibetan Book of the Dead".

Another good set of books are "life after life" and "reflections on life after life" By Dr. J.Moody.
These books were written after Dr. Moody talked with people who had had near death experiences. It's interesting that all people had VERY similar experiences regardless of their religious beliefs.
And for all, it was a pleasant experience except for those who had tried to talk their own lives. For them it was BAD. They said all the problems they had tried to escape by killing themselves where still there!
(Hell)"

But I also believe that you are put here on earth to attain a certain level of "insight".
And I think you do it over and over until you get it right learning the lessons you are here to learn.
