Do you believe in Pele's curse?

I don't believe it (cuz I'm an atheist) but will respect the custom of not taking lava rocks when I'm over there.

If a person didn't know what Pele's curse is, chances are, they don't believe it to be true.

How would someone go about believing that something is true or not if they aren't even aware of it? That would be illogical.

umm... you'll have to read things a little more carefully.

"...anyone that removes a piece of rock from the Hawaiian Volcanoes National Park will incur the wrath of the Godess Pele" (from Snopes website).

Hawaiian Volcanoes National Park is on the island of Hawaii, not Maui.

The legend is Kilauea is Pele's home. Volcano National Park surrounds Kilauea. I believe there is also a Kilauea on Kauai, as well, though. I think some have alluded that this is Pele's real home, not the Kilauea on the Big Island.

Doh!

I didn't bring any rocks back from Maui anyway. I would respect their traditions. I love the Hawaiian islands and the people. Freaking paradise I tell you!!!

This was taken from our hotel balcony with an aging, but small, 2MP P&S digital camera...I should have brought my film camera gear...WTF was I thinking???

We kept our door open at night so we could hear the waves crashing on the beach as we slept.

Same view, daytime.

Beautiful!

I believe we should respect the indigenous gods, and I know people who have had very bad things happen by not doing so.
