Do you believe in any way, shape or form, in an afterlife?

Or do you believe that a human is nothing more than the sum of their parts?

I'd like to believe there is one. If the theory of being the sum of my parts is true, anything and everything I do is ultimately a waste.

Sure can't hurt to believe in an afterlife. Of course there is NO physical proof of anything of the sort. It's a hard decision to make because you've really got nothing to go on.

How so?

No, I do not believe there is any such thing as after life. We're merely biological beings...

I'm not quite sure I believe that a person is solely a mass of cells working together as a whole.
It's just too complex. (Of course, it's had more that 3.5 billion years to perfect itself.)

Then what about law(law of thermodynamics or some jazz like that) which states that matter, when left alone, tends toward chaos rather then order.

We'd like to think there is one, because it is comforting to believe that when we die, we are not truly dead in a sense that we will have another existance. Unfortunately, like people have said, we are mere biological beings, just like any animal, and if there is not a 'fire ant' heaven then why would there be the Heaven?

well if you think that we are just parts, how were we created? That's the only question that I can't answer and I don't buy that we just randomly happened, that just dosen't fly.

*Puts arm around shoulder and whispers*
Ask somebody close to you about the birds and the bees. They'll know.

I believe in Spirit/Soul, which does not abide by the physical laws we are forced to deal with.

I think the more you look at quantum physics, the more you realize that there is a lot we just can't fathom yet.

I hope there is an afterlife, but realistically, kinda doubt it. Oh yah, am I the only person in the world who's parents didn't tell him the bird and bees story?

I've thought about this considerably in the past... I've come to the conclusion, when we're dead, we're dead, and that's it. It's depressing and hard to comprehend, but the chances are, it's true. Man created God, Heaven etc, because he fears death. The notion of there being an after-life after our real existence is just a mass dillusion brought on by fear. Sure Science hasn't been able to disprove the validity of Religion, but there is no hard evidence of there being another existence after this one... Science just makes more logical sense to me then "Faith".

You could deeply argue this topic for a long time... eventually you would end up with how it all started and how or what caused everything to be where it is today. Humans can't even begin to process that type of thinking... I know I can't. This universe came from something? What? A "Big Bang" a "God"? Well what created God? Or What caused the "Big Bang"? Like I said, your head will explode before you can come to a conclusion... All you religious people, enjoy your faith I guess, when you die it won't matter either way. That's just my opinion.

I don't believe there's an afterlife for your current body/soul/mind/whatever. Meaning, you're not gonna live again as the person you are right now sitting down in your chair reading this, but that doesn't mean you won't find yourself in another form. Maybe human, and maybe not. I really find it hard to believe that people don't believe in other life somewhere else in the universe. And I'm not just talking about aliens and ETs. Yes I understand there's no concrete evidence to support my statement, but I don't expect that. The universe is so much bigger than you imagine and the fact that we're the only ones here is ridiculous. Hopefully, light speed travel will be invented before I die :D
