with online banking, I don't need to balance my checkbook. I used to use Microsoft Money, but after a half dozen fatal software crashes, I finally gave up on it.

I use the online banking to verify that all of my transactions are in my checkbook. I don't use the worksheet on the monthly statements to balance it, but I do compare my transactions with the online stuff and make sure everything lines up. I do very little with my checking account, so it always does.

I don't use a checkbook, only write checks if I really have to

debit card/cash/credit card works for me

Balancing checkbooks is something that only needed to be done before the internet.

I balance it quickly before I pay my mortgage, it doesn't take long and is alwasy 100% accurate. Getting overdraft fees is pretty lame, and the online banking has too much of a lag to use it as a reliable guage.

I don't do it every month, since I use my debit/check cashing card for everything with the exception of one or two bills. I keep receipts and every few months sit down for an hour and bang through it, I'm never off more than a few bucks at worst.

I don't use a check book any more at all. I use my debit card and online banking. Since I usually only write 1 or 2 checks per month, its pretty easy to cross reference with my online banking to look for discrepancies.

I do tend to 'bleed' money with the debit card though, most restaurants around here accept debit cards. Makes spending my money way too easy. :(

Hell no. Why would you need to when you can get online and check transactions litterally minutes after you make them. I rarely even need to write checks, and will never ever have to balance my check book. Ever.

I use Quicken to keep track of all my finances. It so cool to see pie graphs of where my money is going. It's almost memorizing!

I write maybe four checks/month and I've never had one bounce, for whatever that's worth.

Online banking takes care of all that.

Same here. I've written probably 15 checks or less in the last two years, debit/credit card gets used for everything else. I do of course check my online banking often to make sure no discrepancies pop up, but nothing ever has. :)
