EDIT
Are my phone contacts supposed to show up in my "Contacts" online in gmail?

Do/how do you back up your phone?

If it got lost/stolen and you got a replacement, you'd lose all your contacts/apps/etc.

Google does it for me.

I like Android in that sense. My gmail account gets more awesome every year. Pic hosting. Document viewing. Calendar syncs with phone. Contacts. I love it.

I have the same call list in my wife's phone. Two phones with the same call list amounts to a bckup. BitPim used to be able to copy or export a phone's list to a PC.

itunes backs up calendar and contacts to outlook right now, and most smartphones are all compatible with that so that's what I stick with

Learned my lessons the hard way a couple of times with Windows Mobile. Now I do a Google sync on my contacts and calendar weekly and back up everything else about once a month using Blackberry's desktop manager program.

In your settings you have to click on contacts if you want it to sync contacts.

It's great to be able to sync contacts and calendar anywhere I am and not have to wait to be home or at work to hook-up my phone to a computer.

Titanium and nandroid with copies of each saved to my computer. I also have my sd & phone contents backed up as well.

Olds...just go to your setting and enable sync. Once you tweak it to your liking, its great.

I do 2 backups. One, my entire SD card to home PC, and my PIM file. I back up about every month or so.

Once in a while. I'd love it if Apple finally added a wireless backup feature for contacts/ calendar, etc. since it's so easy to forget.

Palm's decision to fully embrace syncing google OTA ended my need for backups (not that I ever could w/ a dumbphone before really).

The only thing that doesn't sync is pictures.. but anything I deem worthy of keeping, gets uploaded to tumblr via email.. and thus I have two more copies of it.

I backup in a few ways. Auto to Google, twice a week my apps and settings get backed up with Titanium Backup, and I usually try to do a backup image with sprecovery once a week. Then once every few weeks I backup my memory card to my computer.

I manually backup my contacts every month or so to a Word document. Archaic, yes, but at least I know it's there if I need it.

Pictures, videos, etc. are taken off my phone every few weeks and stored on my computer / backup drives.

To me Google's cloud based services like this are one of the overwhelming reasons to use Android.

The beauty of having everything synced to the cloud is awesome, and light years ahead of hooking to PC and syncing, I remember once I lost both phone & pc to various problems at the same time and lost everything :(

I can (and do) run multiple Android phones on the same Google accounts, it's awesome...

FML ;)
I enabled IMAP and tried to sync. I get an error message that says, "Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly."

Disabled it and got the same message.

Story of my life...

They are they, I am just blind. There were two columns for them.

Contacts and calendar are synced from Outlook on my desktop, and iTunes backs up the phone when I sync.

I get my email (hotmail) through Exchange ActiveSync so I might start using that to sync contacts and calendar OTA.

don't really need to bc of google/android

awesome how froyo will re-install all your apps, even after a wipe.

i always uninstall through settings>applications...i assume that is the same thing?

No.

Google doesn't know you uninstalled. So if you restore, Froyo will reinstall a bunch of apps you don't want. Its not a big deal but is annoying until you figure it out.
