Do you attach heat sink before installing cpu

Which way is easier to install?
install the cpu , then install the heatsink or attach the heatsink on cpu first

You can't attach the HSF combo when the CPU is off the MB. The clips hook onto the actual socket, so you have to put the CPU in first, apply thermal grease, then attach the HSF combo.

Edited for spellings.

It depends if you have a slot or socket mobo. It's easier to install HSF on slot first. For sockets, you have to put in the processor first because the HSF clips onto the mobo.

Well no.. did you physically try to do that yet? If you tried to do that man, you would end up sliding the hsf around on top of the cpu, trying to line up/attach the hsf clamp to the cpu socket. I personally think it's easier to attach the hsf after the cpu is installed w/ thermal paste on it. Maybe someone else knows differently.

I think yall are confused, because everything ur saying is right, but yall are talkin about socket cpu's and mobos. Clearly, he hasn't stated if he has a slot or socket cpu/mobo.

So was your question rhetorical in the first place? Anyway, you didn't state whether you had a slot or socket cpu so people were confused.

Hmmm.... All we need now is WSPTrooper in this thread on Keltron's side:Q That could really get us back to kindergarten😛
