What's weird is that it's normal to say "hey man" but saying "hey woman" is like insinuating something..

It has different connotations... "Hey woman! Get back in the kitchen!" It's just like saying woman instead of man to someone. "Man, don't give me that shit!" "Woman, don't give me that shit!"

Anyway, I try to not use it because it does collide with my feminist beliefs. :/

Chick is from Chicken...

"
The word chick is a short form for chicken and its use in American slang to refer to a young woman is attributed to Sinclair Lewis' book Elmer Gantry (1927)

He had determined that marriage now would cramp his advancement in the church and that, anyway, he didn't want to marry this brainless little fluffy chick, who would be of no help in impressing rich parishioners. But that caution he had utterly forgotten in emotion, and her question was authentically a surprise, abominably a shock
"

Which makes sense because you don't call an older woman a Chick.

I looked up the word dude and it said it has been made unisex.. interesting.

Yeah, it's been on that edge for a long time. One term that is completely unisex is "guy."

I can't count the number of times I've experienced a woman say to other women or a mixed group, "So, what do you guys want to do next?"

they need to come up with another easy to remember monosyllable that implies their slightness and fragility compared to men.

Considering the alternative, I think "chick" is for the best:

Babe?
Girl?
Bitch?
Tramp?
Slut?
Hoe?
Whore?

That's all the single syllable ones I can think of. :p

Isn't this obvious? Historically, women have been viewed upon as inferior to men. When you do an emphasis, "hey MAN" or "hey WOMAN", you are in fact insinuating a social construct that is associated with the word.

Buy some strap-ons of course. :D

I think plural "guys" is unisex but "guy" is not. You can not say the "guy" blah blah blah and assume people will think you are referring to anything but a male.

chick is not offensive unless someone takes it that way.
many a time i've had the following exchanges

"Hey dude."
"I'M NOT A DUDE!"

"Hey bro."
"LOOK! I'M NOT YOUR BRO!"

"Look at this chick."
"EXCUSE ME! I HAVE A NAME!

"Sup bitch."
"OH HEEEEELLLLLL NO!"

So this one chick says to me she says
"Whats a good comeback when a guy tells you to 'get in the kitchen and make me a sandwich'"

To this I says, I says:
"you better 'comeback' with my goddamn sandwich"

Seriously guys, I want tomato to catch on again. Old people talk cool.

A friend of mine says "bird" every time, he never says "chick", "girl", or anything else. Only person I have ever met that actually say that. I've never heard anyone say tomato, but there's always the chance you have just caught me in one of your sarcastic traps. :hmm:

Real life. I've heard all kinds of things from the movies, but I guess my real life has been a little more sheltered. :D
