Do WMAs sound better than MP3s of the same bitrate?

I've always heard they sounded better but never really tested it out before since I don't listen to wmas. Well I'm listening to a cd ripped at 128kbps in wma format and it doesn't sound that bad. MP3s usually sound pretty dull at 128k. It could be the placebo effect though.

Yes. Then again, it depends.

If we are talking run of the mill mp3s, then wma is better.
However, if we are talking about LAME-encoded mp3s, they can potentially sound a LOT better.

it might sound good because it is a good recording some stuff will always sound bad no matter the bit rate
