Do wireless keyboards & mice eat batteries?

I have no experience with these. Do they last several years like TV remotes, or do they eat batteries like digital cameras?

I saw a review some where, sorry no linkage 🙁 but it was on the logitech cordless keyboard/mouse @80 - 100 and they said it lasted longer than a month and supposedly to go for 3 or 4 months easily...... haven't seen or hear it personally. Would of gotten one but for games, Quake etc... it was a tab bit slower than the old corded ones 🙁

it doesn't last for several years only maybe a couple months. I have both Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse. Keyboard is more efficient in term of battery usage.

I forget there name but someone on this forum said there batteries lasted like 10 months in the wireless keyboard. I guess that would depend on how much you used the keyboard.

I have wireless keyb and mouse of Logitech batter lasts for about a week on the mouse and keyboard works thrice as much as the mouse does

Alot of the older sets where bad on batteries but now for the mice its usually 3-6 months average that i have see for the keyboards can be anywhere from 6-9+ months a lot if it comes down to usage as well a do not use the cheap no name branded batteries as well, you may save a few dollars at the time but if you have to replace them 2 or 3 times over regular then it may not be worth it.

Depends which one you buy. I've bought wireless mice for the past 5+ years and the first MS ones I bought would die in 1-2 months on 2 AA's. My logitech VX revolution lasts at least 6 months using it every day on one AA.

It is Not a matter of Brand.

I have Logitech the last for few weeks, and an other logitech Model that last for few months.

The same is with Microsoft,Belkin, Kensington, and others, some Model good other terrible.

If some one here wants to be useful mention your specific model rather than useless Brand "blubber" (they all are using similar Chinese OEMs).

Currently I use Microsoft 3000, it lasts (both Mouse and Keyboard) about two months.

😎

My VX Nano typically "lasts" a few months when I actually use it, but I had it "last" for a year, just because I didn't use it very often that year.

My generic IR remote for my PC lasts about 3 weeks on a set of batteries. My Logitech M305 mouse lasts, hmm, about a month or maybe two. My Logitech K320 keyboard, dunno, haven't had to change them yet.

I suppose I'm lucky, tho I usually only spend a few hours a day on my machines. The keyboard for my MX Duo has had only two battery replacements over the last seven or eight years. The other Logitech in my HT room has had one replacement over the last five years.

My MX-700 needs a recharge every week or so.

The wireless keyboards I have used only required me to change the battery once or twice a year. The mice on the other hand are more like once a month.

Are you sure that it is battery operated?

Regular Batteries do not last so long even if they are Not used. :colbert:

Well, the MX Duo doesn't have any cables, so...yup, I'm sure. Trust me, I was shocked the first time I replaced the batteries, and found the originals still inside that came with the board. I even looked up the purchase date to see how long I'd owned the damn thing.

It was about that same period of time that one of the recharge pins of the base unit had recessed due to a broken spring so that the MX-700 could no longer make contact for a charge. Was just inside my 3-year warranty, and Logitech sent me a new set. It isn't as good as the MX Duo (especially the mouse...), but it's just fine for my HTPC...so I charge my MX-700 batteries outside the mouse, and got a second wireless system for free. YaY for me...

Although I must say that the rechargeable batteries on my MX-700 fully bit it about 18 months ago...I'm using Eneloops now.

He's talking about mice that come with their own rechargable batteries and charger. Other people in this thread, as far as I can tell, are talking about usage of disposable alkaline batteries, and how long they last for a single charge in a device.

My post specified my keyboards. So I'm pretty sure he was addressing my keyboards. And the batteries are disposables.

Agreed on the VX Revo. Usinng one right now, my battery is down to 2 bars, but I believe I put these batteries into the mouse in....maybe september? October? something.

This is my work mouse, I use it roughly 9-11hrs a day. Works like a champ, I don't even think about it.

Oh, rechargeable? My G/F uses an MX Revolution that comes with a rechargeable built in battery. No idea how long it lasts because shes notorious for not putting it on its base. Still, she very VERY rarely has an issues with charge.

My LX8 lasts 2-3 months on a set of rechargeable AA's. Changing the batteries has never been a big deal for me.

I didn't imply anything about brand superiority. I mentioned the first mice I bought over 5 years ago (that happened to be MS) lasted a fraction of the time a newer mouse (like the VX revolution) lasts. OP never mentioned if he's buying new or used, he should just know the limitations of older mice.

Wireless gaming mouse = a few days of battery life, sometimes less than a day
Wireless regular mouse = MUCH MUCH longer (as stated above)

Don't buy a wireless gaming mouse expecting months or years of battery life.

So funny how a thread from 2001 resurrected by a noobie with one post can actually get so much attention over the course of 4 or 5 days.

As for the discussion, it's hit or miss. mx700 mouses have decent battery life, the one i use on my PC at home is going on 4 months. Yes it gets light duty but i never turn it off, and it wakes up within 1 second, it just has a very good power save mode.
