Do we really need to worry about dialup users anymore?

This thread was inspired by a dailup user warning in another thread, with pics. I'm just wondering if many of us at AT still use dialup regularly anymore?

I connected at 9600 bps with my 56k modem tonight... took me a few tries to get up to 28.8k. I think the majority of people (in general) do not have broadband. It's still not available in many areas. The majority of AT members probably do have broadband though.

IIRC last I saw statistics 50% of internet users in the US were still on dialup.

AT is not the norm, it is by far the exception.

you mean like how AT accounts for a high percentage of high-end video card owners, when high end video card owners only account for less the 3% of the total market? :)

I live in a rich town so I don't actually know anyone with dialup. Even the morons on AOL are using it ontop of comcast cable. As far as I'm concerned dialup is dead.

broadband or not really doesn't matter. If you're NATing your broadband connection and someone is running some p2p app or BT that's chewing bandwidth, you might as well be on dialup.

I live in a "rich" town in NJ where broadband is unavailable. I lived in a piss-poor town Indiana where cable and DSL were both available.

I've had a cable modem connection since Aug of 99. I don't think I live without broadband net access for a long period of time after having it for over 5 years.

I have broadband at home at work and I can go to almost any coffee shop or coney island and get free broadband but I STILL HAVE A DIALUP ACCOUNT THAT I HAVE TO USE. Fvcking work blocking stuff so I have to be able to get it while I'm chained at my desk.. good thing I have like 6 computers at my desk.

I was on dialup up until about a month ago. Now I've got 1000/128 Cebridge cable. It's not extremely fast, but downloads max out at about 125kb/sec, for which I can hardly complain about being on dialup from 1997-2004 :p

No kidding... :|

My connection speed has dropped considerably in the past couple of weeks. Right after the teenager upstairs got a computer... Hmmm...
