Isn't that sort of just drawn up context? It's not like he hashtagged it or did anything to provide that sort of context himself. So what you and WaPo are doing is attempting to provide context for his statement, regardless if that was the truth or not.

It truly is odd that he would bring up Haiti if the State Farm tweet backlash was the context he made his tweet. Pretty much the only people allowed to live in the Haitian massacre were white women that agreed to marry the black men.

Do you think excluding the specific reference to actual white genocide, the black massacre of the French after the Haitian Revolution, is a fair thing for a supposedly neutral news organization to do?

I'm not saying they have to put it in the headline. A single "The professor later made reference to the whites killed during the Haitian Revolution" would have at least shown an attempt at even reporting. But instead, they frame it purely in the context of a State Farm advertisement and interracial relationships, when the professor clearly did more than that.

I should point out that I'm not saying everything WaPo publishes is fake news. It's probably a minority of their content. Still, certain stories (particularly anything involving the alt-right boogieman) can't be trusted from them.

Yup. The WAPO article is trash because the Professor never mentioned this State Farm interracial relationship ad (which is a little creepy because the girl looks like she is 14). It was the WAPO article author who made this connection, obviously tipping his or her hand as to the bias.
