Do violent video games actually cause violence?

My feeling is if they did... I would currently be the most sinister serial killer to ever walk the planet. Since I'm not, I have to say nay.

They might make people prone to violence more violent, but playing them in and of themselves doesn't cause it. I'm generally a pretty chill duder, and I know some of my friends that play games like GTA:SA who would never hurt a fly.

It's just a bad wrap the media gives it.

Only in the extremely weak and impressionable, and even then, I think you'd have to be a few bricks short of a load. It's a game - deal with it?

No, they dont. But at the same time games like God of War, Resident Evil, et al shouldnt be played by children under 16. Follow the ESRB!

Why not?

If it weren't for violent videogames, I would have killed someone. They are a form of escapism, and can be used as stress relief. Bad day in traffic? Fire up GTA3 and start running cars down in a tank!

Oh yeah, also anyone who blames video games for their problems... the games didnt cause their issues, they're just looking for an easy way out.

remind me never to pi$$ you off.

My thoughts are if a person is going to commit violent acts then they are going to do so regardless the kind of video games they play. The problem is obviously with how they were raised. I watched the most violent movies, saw sex scenes, and played games like Doom when I was young and I am pretty much a non-violent person (unless you piss me off 😉 )

The ultimate hypocrisy here are the very same people who claim cigarette ads make kids smoke will vehemently deny that movies and video games will make them act violent or have sex.

An ad is a 30 second movie that advocates an action. A movie is a two hour experience that advocates actions and a video game is a never ending movie that not only advocates actions, it has you virtually play them out.

Understand me here, I am against any and all censorship. Including the double standard against commercial advertising.

Influences are everywhere in life. The key is training kids to ignore them, not ban the influences themselves.

You must world-proof your child, not child-proof the world.

state of emergency- you can rip off heads and beat people with them

have you noticed though that most of the low lifes of society aren't wealthy enough to be able to afford a console for video games?

blaming video games for problems is just another thing to add to the list of things people blame so that they don't have to claim responsibility

I'll bet a great many people on public aid have video games for their kids. They aren't known for using their money wisely.

Video games are an excuse for bad parents to not take responsibilty for the screwed up children they raised, that's it.

I'd go back through levels of certain video games and just keep killing if I hadn't killed absolutely everyone, I'm cretainly not going to do it in real life.

I also watched Rambo:First Blood over and over and over again as a little kid. I haven't yet cut apart any moron cops with some wooden stakes or blown up a small town....or maybe I have.....

They get welfare checks, too.

Go drive by public housing and LOOK. Look at the clothes they wear, especially the shoes. Also look at the number of high-end cars or cars with high-end stereos.

video games don't cause violence, nor anything else that people claim they cause, people who say "video games made me do it" are either: A) weak willed morons B) complete fvcking retards or C) knew they were never going to get laid and decided to take it out on the world. if you fit into one of those catagories you should play with your barney doll and learn how to get along.
