On newsgroups they don't label you "Platinum Member" for neffing, on forums they do. Guess which I prefer

It depends on the content I crave...

You can't beat the AT forums for quick and easy hardware help. Newsgroups tend to be full of idiots who jump all over you when you don't know that Jumper J17 on the MicroStar Model 3425a Rev: 2.73 motherboard allows you to adjust the voltage. Here on the forums, people tend to be more helpful.

If I'm looking for info and don't have a question I'll jump into the newsgroups. There used to be a bryce newsgroup that had some crazy renderings, but I've since lost track of it. You can't beat newsgroups for media searching (just get a providor that supports the binaries groups)

Your question itself is too hard to answer because there are thousands of newsgroups running the gamut from celebrity fan groups to really raunchy porn to CD images of software. I don't think we're allowed to mention the names of the groups where you get the last two.
