my friend who lives in same city as me says there is a texaco that sells octane 92 instead of 91. i trust what he says, but isn't anything higher than 91 octane illegal in CA to sell?? he says it costs the same as 91 over other gas stations.

ive read CA doesn't sell 92 octane since we have a pollution law that makes 92 a pollutant. to make 92 octane more environmentally safe, it would have to cost twice as much as 91 octane, therefore they opted to sell 91 octane which doesn't require expensive environmentally safe additives in it.

Not sure about 'higher in CA', but I know Sunoco sells messed up ones. I remember I went to one one time because their regular was the cheapest by a few cents. Then, while I was pumping, I realized their 'regular' is 86 octane.

lol....

Why would higher than 91 be illegal? Heh..

93 octane is sold at most clark stations around here (chicago). a clark near the HD I used to work at sells 99, and one by o-hare sells 108.

There's a station in Mission Viejo, CA that sells 100+ octane gas. I think it was Shell station, one right next to train tracks and down the street from Best Buy/CompUSA off Oso Parkway. Mission Viejo is south of Irvine, almost midway point between L.A. and San Diego.

IIRC the 76 in Redondo Beach (off of Palos Verdes Boulevard near the Village shopping area) did at one point, and I think the gas station next to the refinery at Crenshaw and 190th does as well.

unless you have a race car i wouldn't suggest putting that in your tank

Yeah, Huntington Beach Mobil(i think, could be Chevron) at Beach and Garfield sells 108 octane gas I think.

They don't post prices up, but I can be sure it's up there - their gas is some of the most expensive around town - it's right by HB Seacliff
