Seems like reading glasses developed for a distance of around 1 foot, but the computer is more like 2 feet away.

Yes. My optometrist has been making them for years. I am on my second pair.
They work great and I always use them on the computer.
I don't know if you can buy them pre made. Perhaps a google search?

hmmm.
I asked here instead of google, becasue you can find any answer to any question on google.
Here, you will get inteligent answers from computer geeks, nto some web page selling some bs gadget.

I will asked my eye Dr. if my prescription can be modified to work at computer screen distance.

First of all...if you're reading from one foot away, you need better glasses...but yes, if you specify "glasses for computer use," your optometrist SHOULD be able to fit you with lenses that work for that.

Yep, I have progressive bifocals. The midrange is designed specifically to work with the distance between my eyes and the monitor (about two feet).

I started have problems reading my computer about a year ago. Other then that I was okay. I have weird eye were I use one for distance and one to see things up close. A distance prescription did not make any sense. My optometrist recommended a computer prescription. It was perfect for me for the most part. The only issue I have discovered is now I need them whenever I'm in front of a computer otherwise I can not read one at all. I also have some issues when I'm doing other activities were my eye need precession at the same focal length as that use for my computer. Overall I'm happy with it. The girls at work also think I look sexy in my new glasses. :D

Reading glasses seem to be made for viewing something at about a 1 foot distance.
Have they really started making something o work at a 2 foot distance? Can I get my current prescription modified to work at 2 feet?

Yes. Theyre also known as office lenses. Work with your optomitrist and tell them your needs, they can make em :)
