Do they have 30 day/night contact lenses for people with astigmatism yet?

I used to wear those regular contact lenses where you have to take 'em off before you go to sleep, but those were a pain, so i stopped wearing them. Last time i heard, those contacts that you could wear day and night were only for people who don't have astigmatism. Has that changed recently?

i have contact lenses that you wear to sleep. they temporarily correct your vision, then you take them out in the morning and have 20/20 for X amount of hours. the effect ranges anywhere from a day to a month from just one usage (most people get a day or two out of it)

Wow, so you have em huh? How are they working out for you? I'm really interested, but you're the first I know to actually have used em. Also if you don't mind, what degree are your eyes?

I have Ciba Day & Nights and they're by far the best contacts I've ever owned. I can get a good three months use out of one pair (I take them out once a week overnight for cleaning), they let a lot of air through so there's little irritation, and dry eyes are fixed with a drop of eyedrops in the morning. Also like not wearing contacts at all

so do any of you that wear special contacts have astigmatism, since that's what myself and the op (i'm assuming) have. I hate taking out my contacts everyday, and they're very irritable as well

I wear Acuvue2 or Acuvue Advanced. Each are only supposed to be worn for 2-weeks There are some 3-4 week out there as well, but I don't know about for people with Astigmatism.

They do have the 2-week day/nights for people with Astigmatism.

Really? is this recent? I asked me a Eye Dr a few months back for the night and day ones but was told I couldn't where them because of my Astigmatism. I'll have to research this.

It might depend on the severity of the astigmatism, my wife has a mild astigmatism and wears acuvue 2.

My mom had a severe astigmatism and wore some sort of contact, I don't remember if they were disposable or not.

Look into toric type lenses.

my contacts are a special type of hard lenses that use a technology called Orthokeratology. it's only been recently FDA approved but it's safe(the tech has been around for several decades). I've had mine for 2.5 years now (the same pair), although when i got mine 2.5 years ago, i had to sign a medical waiver (the components of the lenses were FDA approved, but not all components combined into the lense were, at the time). my eyes, naturally, are 20/40. these lenses are meant to slow down/stop the process of vision degredation. i get about 30 hours of perfect vision when i wear my contacts for 6-8 hours. only downside is they are expensive.

I'm not sure how much the first pair cost. my replacement lense (i lost one) had cost $125.... so based on that, $250/pair

It really depends on the severity of your astigmatism, it's been a good 5 or 6 years since I stopped practising so things will have moved on quite a bit since then.

As far as I am aware the night and days (30 day wear) are available in up to a +2.50D cyl so providing your astigmatism is no higher than that then you should be able to use them. Most wearers get away with not needing toric lenses it really depends on your visual acuity with the lenses in, however I'm gonna assume you need them or you wouldn't be asking I would seriously go back to your optician and ask him again, the thing with contact lenses is most opticians prefer one brand over another, but that brand might not do what you want, so ask him/her about other brands and if he doesn't know don't feel bad about looking elsewhere for a second opinion.

np. they only work with a certain range of vision (not sure whatr that range is, just that im in it, hehe).

as a bonus to my contacts, they are also 2 different colors so i dont get them mixed up. i have blue eyes, and the right lense is yellow (my right eye becomes green) and the left lense is blue, so my left eye becomes more blue. 2 different eye colors, w00t

I take it you have keratoconus? I'm surprised they've only recently been FDA approved, one of my tutors while I was training to be an optician was wearing this type of lens over 10 years ago (he had to wear them for 24 hours and then got 2 weeks of good vision after taking them out) and had been wearing them for at least ten years... They cost him a packet too, I remember him losing one once when we all went out for a drink after lectures, we had the whole pub looking around for them they were that expensive... Shows how far other things have moved on as well when he found it he just rinsed it in his beer and put it back in heh, he'd crucify anybody doing that now...

His prescription was -0.50D sph +18.75D cyl (the astigmatic component) I remember it well because it was the highest I'd ever heard of at the time heh...

Is that when you have different eye presription? Well, i'm 4.5 on my left and 4.0 on the right and i'm using day and night contacts. You can wear them for 30 days but i usually take them out after a week and clean it.

what's kerotoconus? all i know is i have myopia and an astigmatism in my left eye, i think.
