Do they do this kind of punishment in the educational system in the US?

we had this in my elementary school, but i highly doubt they still do it.

i think the teacher had us copy a page out of the dictionary if you forgot your homework or didn't do all of it. except me, since i was a teachers pet.

Oh ya, quite a few times. One time I actually had to write a 500 word essay instead of lines. I'll take lines any day.

man, i had the worst 11th grade teacher. she made the entire class write 'I will not talk in in class' (or something to that effect, but longer). the whole class was punished because a few wouldn't stfu. we had to write it 1000 times. I used to write the 'I' all the way down the page first, then 'will' all the way down, then 'not', etc etc

they did this shit to me alllll the time in elementary and middle school. they would threaten to double it but if you didnt do it they would just forget or give you detention. if you didnt go to detention then they would give you double, dont go to that and they suspend you, which every kid loves. i can just remember thinking "wait, you WONT let me go to school!?!?! *dance dance*" needless to say, now we all know why my English sucks 😛

Hehe, ya that works well. What also works well is to write the lines with 2 pens. That way you complete 2 lines at once. Just gotta be sure that it doesn't look obviously paired though.

..worse then that in the US. They just don't teach ya anything.

Yeah it is very sad ... but after college I think we even out. I don't think I am better educated than any of my classmates in college... except my first year and half at CC.
What was really sad is to see 1 out of 16 PhDs issued at my graduation to go to an American (my TA at the time).

and on, and on, and on...
for a while, I think I was developing blackboard arm...
Mind you, this was in the days of REAL slate blackboards and chalk...not whiteboards and markers...

When you got done, you had to thoroughly clean the board, take the erasers outside and clean them, then return them to the class.

One teacher made us write either the US Costitution, the Declaration of Independence, or the Gettysburg Address...over and over and over...

Alright BoomerD! I'm glad I'm not the only relic who wrote all those. I used to have to write 'em outside the Principals office 500 times. I credit my teachers for my excellent printing skills. 🙂

Do schools all use whiteboards now? I wondered when those would take over, they're so much more effective.

If I forget to bring a textbook to class, the teachers would make me sit on my knees, apologize and then proceed to smack my forehead hard with the loaner book while the whole class watched. Of course this was not in the US but I learned my lesson well.
