Do the original Nvidia TNT cards not have 2D problems?

Folks, I just received my new NEC FP955 monitor(.24dp) today. So to try it out, I hooked it up to my old system with a lowly, outdated Hercules TNT 16MB. All I can say is, that at 1600x1200, text is still crisp and readable at 8pt font. That is quite small for me though, so I bumped it to 10pt. Everything looks great at this res, which suprised me. Text doesn't look blurry at all to me.

So...The cards with the poor filters and 2D problems are only apparent with the GeForce/GeForce2 cards?

As far as I know, the original TNT cards had excellent 2D. I had a Canopus Spectra 2500 that had very sharp 2D. It wasn't as good as my Matrox G200, but was still sharp.

I wouldn't say the original had good 2D. I had a diamond viper 550 and that thing had horrible 2D compared to a Matrox G200 which I also used on the same monitor as the viper 550. I know the comparison is a little unfair but even at 1024x768 at 85hz on a 17-inch Sony E200...text was blurry.

Nah, the creative labs TNT had absolutely rubbish 2D quality.
On the flipside, my ELSA TNT2 Pro card has great 2D performance.

The original TNT cards are what started this whole bad nvidia 2d mess. While a couple TNT makers had good 2d, most had terrible 2d. I mean really terrible! You could tell right away when someone had a bad TNT card, just by looking at the bad desktop. Due in part to this, some still think all nvidia cards have bad 2d. With the GF2, things have switched to most nvidia cards having good 2d, but still a couple compaines, like Creative and Hercules having less acceptable 2d, but even those 2 compaines are know where close to the bad 2d of the original TNT's.

In my experience the original TNT and TNT2 cards had absolutely horrible 2D quality, even worse then the much maligned 2D on the GF1/2.

Just as with the Gf2 there were a few occasional expceptions wherein a TNT card would have could 2D quality but from my experience those were the exception and not the rule.

I had a CL TNT card & when I upgraded to a GF2 MX I notice some improvement in 2D image, even my MX card is not that good & when I use 1152x864 or above the quality starts to drop.

So most TNT cards are not that good in 2D.

I own a TNT2 ultra from creative. I compared the 2D to my friends asus GF2 GTS. the colours on mine are considerably more vibrant. The colours on the GF2 look all washed out and faded in comparison.
