Do the issues of monitor interference, like flickering, affect the LCD like a CRT?

Reason why I ask is because my CRT has started to flicker for no apparent reason. It doesn't seem video card related, so I can only assume my monitor is dying or becoming in conflict with another I/O source.

If a LCD is not subject to interference, or show side-effects like flickering, I would rather junk my CRT for a LCD.

Well, yes and no.

LCD screens don't have *refresh rate* flicker problems. They may still have issues if there is a lot of electrical interference that's keeping it from getting a clean signal (although using a DVI cable will get rid of almost all of that).

Does your CRT *flicker* (look at it out of the corner of your eye -- it should be noticeable)? If so, your refresh rate is too low. If it's *shaking* or flickering visibly all the time, though, you have some sort of interference on the circuit. I used to fix this all the time in tech support by turning off desk fans and moving AC adaptors for things like printers around.

Yes it defiantly flickers all the time and is very noticeable. I can't even play games anymore because it's to much of a distraction. I tried moving the AC adapter around, then I tried plugging in the monitor to a completely different wall outlet. Still is shaking and flickering. Refresh rate is set at 85 @ 1024 x 768 which is native for this CRT.

I guess I'll try to play aluminum foil antenna boy tonight, found out what's causing the interference.

I have the monitor set to 120 Hertz and it stops flickering. That can't be good. That's a good sign the monitor blew, right?

757MB, Wow if this is common for Syncmasters I may not want them to replace it.

You shouldn't have so much flickering. Do you have unshieled speakers or anything with a big power supply near your monitor??

Yeah, I think it's coming from my cheap surge protector. Plugged my PC into another wall socket and all is well.

Still want a LCD though... heh.
