do "successful" minority neighborhoods exist?

This is only tangentially related to this thread, but I thought I'd post it. A couple interesting things I heard recently regarding two widespread stereotypes of black people, namely the stereotype that black people are lazy and hang out on the street all day and the one that says they waste all their money pimping their cars.

What I heard was that many black people have traditionally held pretty crappy jobs, such as working night shifts or late hours at restaurants. So their only time off was during the day. A combination of segregation and the lack of good places to pass the time during the middle of the day led them to simply hang out with each other on the street instead. Thereafter it became more ingrained as it turned into a tradition.

As for the cars, it was a similar thing where in the past, many blacks simply could never, ever get a home loan. Obviously we still have predatory lending but that at least gets people into homes (even if it subsequently kicks them out). But back when they couldn't get homes at all, the most expensive things they could buy were their cars. Thus, while most white people would put money into making their home a personalized thing to be proud of, black people would put their money into their cars for much the same reasons.

I don't know how grounded in reality these stories are but they seem plausible. Just goes to show how easy it is to completely misunderstand people who behave differently.

just wondering if there were any that weren't infested with crack whores and gang bangers on every street corner.

if not, why?

PLENTY of successful asian communities.

you might want to change the title of your thread to darker skin minority.

I was going to post:

Fremont
San Jose
Irvine
Hacienda Heights
Rowland Heights
Garden Grove
Diamond Bar
Chino Hills

and those are just a few of the suburbs of California, but then the OP decided to exclude asians cuz they don't prove the 'point' he's trying to make =

Currently in NY. I would say this place is pretty minority dominated. I've also strolled through the Bronx and Harlem and never really felt unsafe.

But if he does that he'll be labelled a racist. The thing people need to remember is 90% of stereotypes are true. Including all the so called beloved patriot ones about me being a white male.

Asking the question in this manner, all he does is make himself look like a pussy, while fooling absolutely no one as to what his intentions are. It's the worst of both worlds. I wouldn't label him a racist just for asking the question, but asking it in such an evasive way is an admission of guilt.

I doubt it. I got assaulted in a high end neighbourhood with homes starting at 1 million +

Edit:

I should also add that I lived in a "ghetto" neighbourhood by Toronto standards where a cop was shot in my buildings stairwell among countless other crimes that happened outside. I lived there for 11 years and used to hang around at night 1 am etc and was never touched nor did I have any problems.

i think that about covers it in my neck of the woods.

ok, how about any non-asian minority ones.

glendale, little armenia

if you're asking for other colors, I can't help yah

Since when has Armenia not been in Asia?

And what about Iran, Philippines, and the Middle East?

Dude, don't be an idiot.

If you were describing some Egyptian guys who lived in the US, would you call them Africans? Would you seriously describe Russian guys as Asian?Give me a fucking break.

In this context, Asian is an ethnic group, not a strictly geographic reference.

because as we have already said... true racial grouping only happens when education and poorness abound. im not speaking about africa where all the people are all...native africans.

its a simple logic really, poor and rich segregate... and when the poor segregate from the rich, they group racially. anywhere there is poor, there is drugs and crack whores.
its not pure cause and effect but there is a relation.

I agree with this, but this actually lends more proof that racial segregation isn't a cause of drugs and crack whores.

Poverty causes drugs. Poverty causes racial segregation. Racial segregation does not cause drugs. You will not find tons of drugs in any rich racial segregated neighborhoods. Actually, I take that back. A lot of rich white neighborhoods have huge coke problems.

I will repeat this example until I am blue in the face but: There is a direct correlation between ice cream sales and drowning deaths. Do you think if we sell less ice cream that less people will drown?

Also, I really don't like the tone of the OP. It seems pretty racist IMO asking about minority communities. He should really ask about racially segregated communities, unless he thinks there aren't all white shit-holes (which there are).

Black people are scary?

OP - the successful black people move to the neighborhoods that are mostly populated by white people. They don't segregate themselves.

Not always true, Baldwin Hills comes to mind, the majority of people who live there are black, and it's an upperclass to rich area. Very big homes and most people have 2-3 nice cars. There are also parts of Long Beach that are mostly black where the homes are huge and expensive. There are a decent number of black people who want to stay around their own kind.

well, depending on your perspective...it is a bad neighborhood. I'm not that long out of college, but I definitely don't want to be in spitting distance of late-night drunken strolls through my yard and loud-ass parties every night.

But Long Beach is so huge there are very nice parts but Long Beach but some downright shitty parts so you can't include Long Beach cus those bad parts bring it down a lot and they are self segregated.

Cus he's trying to be "Culturally Sensitive".

Well for the future, "minority" is not the most preferred term. If you must use it, use it correctly (not as a replacement for "black," ignoring other minorities). To describe all non-whites, "Person of color" is usually preferred to "minority."

Use black or African American if that's what you mean.

the bad parts can't bring it down that much, there are areas with million dollar homes in Long Beach. If you get far away from the East Side you will see some "wow" homes. The OP was asking about nice areas that are mostly blacks, that would be some parts of LB 😉

But Long Beach isn't totally a nice area though. Those shitty parts are too shitty to call Long Beach in general successful.
