Do rotten eggs explode when boiled?

Another stupid question, do rotten eggs explode when boiled?

I just boiled some eggs for some Easter Sunday "roulette" ... and well, 2 outta 4 of them exploded for no reason. Were they rotten?

Wouldn't you have known if they were rotten though? Man rotten eggs smell like isht... ugh...

Well they just exploded in the pot, and they were yellow... perhaps they just decided to commit sucide? No scent at all too.

Try putting salt in the water prior to boiling the eggs. Salt will prevent the eggs from cracking while boiling.

I don't know why.... some bird just told me😀

i've always used salt... seems to work fine

I lived on campus with four other guys and one day while cleaning out the refrigerator, I found some eggs. God knows how old they were, so of course I had to throw them at a tree or something. Sakes alive when they bounced off! Didnt' know eggs could get so bad they harden.

I'm pretty sure the salt will raise the boiling temperature of the water, so it will be hotter before it boils, and the boiling is probably what cracks them.

no, the salt, IIRC from cooking pasta, lowers the boiling temp so the boil at lower temp.

Here's how you can make good hard boiled eggs. put eggs in pot of room temp water. Turn heat on high. When water starts to boil, turn pot off and leave eggs in there 10 minutes. Get them out quick or they get that green tinge to the yolk and get overcooked. Eggs hardboiled correctly are supposed to have yellow yolks, not green on the outside and yellow in the middle.
