The short answer is yes, but it's a little more complex than that.

Why Do Republicans Hate Cops?

WASHINGTON — It was, I must admit, a virtuoso performance by Sean Hannity.

Not since the sheriff in “Blazing Saddles” put a gun to his own head and took himself hostage has anyone executed such a nutty loop de loop.

Opening his show Tuesday night, Hannity gave a monologue defending the police (and lacing into the usual suspects: Hunter, Kamala, Hillary, Nancy, the summer riots, gun violence and unvaccinated illegal immigrants). “Attacks on law enforcement are never and should never be acceptable ever, not at the Capitol and not anywhere,” he declaimed.
Yet Mr. Pro Police had nary a word for the four police officers who had appeared before Congress that morning to describe going to “hell and back,” as a Washington police officer, Michael Fanone, put it, as they relived the scarring, desperate hours of Jan. 6 when they were attacked by Trump’s mob (and Hannity’s viewers).
When it came down to it, the question of whether Republican lawmakers in the House would side with Donald Trump or the police who risked their lives defending them, it wasn’t even a close call for the law-and-order party.

The G.O.P. overwhelmingly stuck with Trump, perpetuating his sick mythology about a day we all saw with our own eyes. Twenty-one House Republicans even voted against awarding congressional gold medals to the police officers who responded on the day of infamy.

They couldn’t countenance “the Pelosi sham commission,” as moderate-turned-lunatic Elise Stefanik — Liz Cheney’s Eve Harrington — told Hannity. Its only purpose, Stefanik said, was “trying to shame over 70 million Americans who were standing up for constitutional and election integrity issues.” Besides, she said, in another moment of utter fatuity, “Republicans are focused on the facts.”

The heart-rending police testimony was dismissed by most Republicans and Fox News as “political theater.” What gall by a party that claims to have the backs of men and women in blue.

Laura Ingraham even gave awards — “Best Exaggerated Performance,” “Best Political Performance” and “Best Performance in an Action Role” — to the police who recounted their terrifying battles with the mob. “They came across as political actors,” Ingraham said. “That doesn’t help anything. We want the police to be just the police.”

Even as Ingraham was describing as “actors” those cops who faced danger, Erin Smith was trying to get the death of her husband, a veteran Washington patrolman — the second officer to take his own life after the insurrection — reclassified from a suicide to a death in the line of duty.

After he was hit in the head with a metal pole during the rampage, he fell into a dark depression, his wife told The Times. On the way to his shift, he pulled his car off the George Washington Parkway and killed himself with his service weapon.

More than casting the police who told their stories as drama queens and fabulists, four House Republicans, representing the dregs of Congress, turned up at a Washington jail on Thursday to shine a light on the plight of suspects detained in the Jan. 6 insurrection. One of them, Representative Paul Gosar of Arizona, hailed them as “political prisoners.”

Since when do Republicans care more about criminals in jail than the cops who put them there? Since when do they coddle domestic terrorists?

Since Donald Trump.

A new report in The Daily Beast shows how the fish rots from the big orange head. The Beast reports that Trump has been leading his party’s efforts to recast what happened on Jan. 6 and has been belittling some police heroes, using a vulgar slur for a woman’s anatomy that we’ve famously heard him use on tape; he’s also rebranding Ashli Babbitt, a rioter and an Air Force veteran from California who was killed that day, as a martyr to his cause.

It’s more of Trump’s tough-guy posturing. Indeed, The Village People’s “Macho Man” — which Trump shimmied to at his rallies — was the insurrection’s soundtrack. How rich that Cadet Bone Spurs, who spends his days watching himself on TV and puttering around in a golf cart, belittles cops who bravely took beatings from the mob he sicced on them. It’s gobsmacking how easily Republicans swap their values for Trump’s voters.

He turned Republicans upside down like a snow globe, and suddenly the party that loved to rah-rah for family, morals and religion was in the grip of a thrice-married, grabby, foul-mouthed Tartuffe. The party that prided itself on supporting those in uniform, the F.B.I. and C.I.A. had to go along with Trump’s crooked ways and Deep-State vilification of the F.B.I. and the intelligence community.

We’re still learning the extent to which President Trump tried to strong-arm the Justice Department into helping him purloin the election. As the Times’s Katie Benner reported Friday, as late as Dec. 27, Trump called officials at Justice and, according to their notes, told them: “Just say that the election was corrupt + leave the rest to me,” assuring them that his congressional allies would help.

The story is chilling because it shows that Trump was not merely thrashing about on his throne. His plan to reverse the election was more orchestrated and sinister than we knew.

Could he actually have used the government to overthrow the government and become dictator perpetuo?

they like supporting cops publicly cuz they think it will impress their brainwashed user base.
Ditto military.

The last several presidents to actually make life better for veterans and active duty were all Democrats.

Repubs hate anything and anyone that's not on their side because they see themselves as the victims in any scenario that works against them. In this way every bad thing that happens to them due to Trump setting them free of any constraints that morals, ethics and the rule of law would have prevented them from perpetrating will have a catch-all excuse ready to go at a moment's notice. They are forever blameless no matter what that party of fascists do and say. How convenient.

By the authority that Trump wielded while in office, he and his enablers defied the norms, the principles and the letter of the law in wanton fashion while not being held accountable for their crimes all with the full support of those folks who elected him into office. It's as if the more damage and mayhem Trump brought forth upon the nation the more gleeful his sycophants in the legislature and those rank of file supporters of his became.

Looks like they want more of the same. With no values to promote, no credibility to bargain with, no platform from which to stand on and defend, the Repubs only reason for existing at the moment is to deny the majority of the nation their right to have a say in how their nation is run and by whom.

Stockholm victims worship power and authority so long as they control it and it doesn't threaten them. Cops are either useful tools going after Antifa but worthless shits if they come after them. It has nothing to do with having a moral center. They have only one primary motivation and that is to have control so as to be able to bring force against their imaginary fears, to battle their childhood unconscious demons.

R's will say they support the blue line because those words gives morons and cucks like @s0me0nesmind1 raging boners, but actions speak louder then words. R's in action very rarely reflect what R's say in words, but the moron boner brigade eats it all up like the good dogs they are, eagerly willing to support their masters, all the while blaming some "other" for their own failed actions and other shortcomings. The day a modern trumpian R speaks truth will be the same day an excessive amount of ice cubes will be found in hell.

They have the same view of the police that Trump has of everyone. You’re either with me 100% or against me. They thought if they backed the blue (with words) the blue would do their bidding at all times without question.

I do understand that the police have a lot of issues to reform, but truly outrageous behaviour like the Capitol riot was not ignored or facilitated like the qcumbers wanted, so the police are now liberal communist cuck woke pussies.

Do Republicans Hate Cops?

Most definitely yes. As a matter of fact I have never met a Republican or Conservative who doesn't hate Cops or anyone associated with the Armed Forces. They have no respect for the job these true patriots go through day in and day out.
It's sickening really and I don't know how these Nazi asshole Fascist traitors at False News can justify what they are saying.

Can you imagine a political party or news organization not wanting to support local police departments? The thought of it is atrocious...........

Quite the expert at double speak.

They could not even bring themselves to hand a shiny piece of medal to the hero's that saved their own country.

"Best Exaggerated Performance"
"Best Political Performance"
"Best Performance in an Action Role"

I have an award for Laura Ingraham:
The Ingraham ward for committing any evil act for money without hesitation!

and for everyone who watches her:
"The she makes me feel good about being a racist fascist in denial award!"

So are we still defunding or what? Has this event stripped the guise of murderous ruffian from the police and shown them to be the fragile little flowers we all hoped would be there?

The problem with bandwagons is the new ones corner to well. I keep falling of in the turns.

How do the cops not know this?

View attachment 48093

well, cops are a community and they do look out for each other and support each other.
Once in a while the republican party will do something genuinely good for that community and then they'll ride the good reputation for as long as possible. More often than not it isnt something that helps the general population, but things that only help police, like union support, benefits, or military hardware for the streets.

As far as I'm concerned, with the Repubs being in their present shitty situation with all of it self-inflicted and led by their pathologically debilitated liar-in-chief and bullshitter extraordinaire with the stench of fear-driven desperation hanging thick in the air over their heads, they will use any means at their disposal, use anyone, any organization and any law they can turn on its head in order to grasp and hold on to power.

That is their one and only concern, with Trump and his devious criminal word and deed forcing them to give up on any pretense of being "fiscally conservative", championing "family values", being the party of "law and order", staunch defenders of "religious freedoms" and every other contrived ideal they could separate themselves from the "godless socialist commie liberals" with.

Here’s a recent article on just this subject. But it’s longer than a cartoon, so the probability of you availing yourself of a bit of knowledge is nil.

I'm going to be generous and assume that you dont understand what the defunding the police thing is about.
It not about getting rid of the police, its about not getting the police to do things that are inappropriate for the police to do. So rather than the cops turning up, guns drawn, to deal with someone having a mental health crisis, you'd have people specifically trained to deal with that problem.
Its not to say that in extremis you wouldnt need the police there, its just they shouldnt be the first port of call for that sort of thing.
So you divert funds from the police that are being used ineffectively and inappropriately and divert those funds to appropriate specialists.

Don't ask Greenman to do any critical thinking or active learning, he's demonstrated without fail he is interested in neither.

You are being kind of harsh. He won’t agree but he’ll get the point that when we and most people talk about defunding they aren’t literally saying no police (however this would be a libertarians dream), they are saying let’s divert some funds somewhere else and get the police back to doing what they want to do and are typically good at doing.
