Do PS2 controllers work on PSX?

My friend just picked up a cheap original Playstation and I have about 6 PS2 controllers. Do the new controllers work on the old system??

I tried google but its all links to buy controllers not what I want.

EDIT: Changed Paddles to Controllers.

btw, yes a ps2 controller will work on a psone... but like you said, the pressure sensitivity wont work.
