Midwesterners generally seem to have, as a whole, a more neutral accent than most people I've met...but there are quite a few who have this weird little pronunciation hitch with the "a" sound in words like bag or back.

As far as southern/northern (i.e. NY/NJ/Mass) accents go, it's really going to vary depending on where you are. Southerners aren't used to northern accents, so some of them find it interesting, and vice-versa. As a whole, though, I'd say that at least in my personal experience, more men find a slight southern rather than a slight northern accent attractive in a woman.

I can't say I've ever met anyone from Connecticut, so I've got nothing against y'all. If you can give me a better geographic term that encompasses Massachussetts, NY, and Jersey then I'll use it instead of "New England".

jersey and new york are not part of new england silly. new england is CT, MA, RI, NH, VT and ME

Well I am Southern. I'm aware of that definition, but we generally include the "middle colonies" when making that reference. (Sort of like how the rest of the world calls all Americanas "Yankees".) Pretty much everything above Maryland is New England to me.

Edit: Also, I'm beginnng to dislike Connecticutians now 🙂

I've never been to the Northeast, but I've met more than a few transplants. It didn't bother me at first, but I've come to hate it when it's a very strong accent. Since I'm not an amazing southern woman, I'm sure you won't mind.

Very few people actually have that accent here, probably five percent or less, and they are all older people. You have to travel into northern canada to find an accent which even approaches that portrayed in the movie Fargo.
