I've been around the U.S. quite a bit, and Ohio has some of the most competent drivers on the road. The percentage of folks insured here is very high. Drunk driving is less common. Driving regulations for teens are tough, but fair. Etc.

Michigan has the worst drivers in the U.S. by far. They also have the worst roads too, but that's a different issue altogether. I live pretty close to the MI border, and I've become almost "prejudiced" (as silly as that may sound) against MI drivers that I see down here because they pull all kinds of silly stunts on the road.

When I see someone with MI plates, I just steer clear.

so exactly what is it about women drivers? No offense to any who may read this. But honestly, does my pulling across the highway into the closest lane (the fast lane) mean you have to start pulling into the slow lane, then when you see me coming, have a quick change of mind and cut me off? sheesh I'm so sick of people doing that to me. as the saying goes, "horn broke, watch for finger!" Fortunately I can control myself (most of the time) and I don't let that slip.

Don't you just wish that sometimes you had a horn so loud that the old fart that cut you off would have to stop and change their depends? :)

I have 2 good arguments as to why Atlanta has the worst drivers in the world.
1. I-285 has the second highest average speed in the nation at just over 85 mph (the speed limit is 55 on most of it).

2. We all remember John Rocker's famous interview. It was given while he was driving on an Atlanta highway. Trust me, any of you would have spouted angry rants if you were the one driving.

Anywhere you go you are gonna meet crappy drivers.

In the Bay Area, we like to think we're polite but when I'm in LA I think that they're DEFINITELY more polite. Probably because they are used to driving in traffic.

Whereas, in the Bay Area, people will drive on the shoulder to get into the exit, try to change lanes in traffic WITHOUT their blinker on, and carpool lane cheaters suck. Also everyone here lives on their cell phones, and even with handsfree sets they still get distracted. Also, there is absolutely no freaking money to fix the degrading highways and when they do fix them, they seem to fix the parts that weren't broken.

I admit I'm an aggressive driver. I won't honk my horn at you but I will yell and scream at you from the safety of my car. And if you dare cut me off, lemme return the favor for you. With a smile. =)

LA has very FAST, dangerous drivers. However, the worst drivers I have seen ANYWHERE (USA) is Honolulu, Hawaii. Slow old people driving in the fast lane, young terrible fast drivers trying to get around them. Big trucks in the fast lane. No driver training in high school. I also believe insurance rates are the highest in the United States. Lots of acidents. The only worst place I have driven is Tijuana, Mexico or maybe Brazil.

Over here(Germany) there seems to be a new law that you may NEVER use your blinkers when changing lanes or before going around corners. You ONLY are allowed to use them when passing bikes or parking cars, in other words, NEVER use 'em when doing something unexpected, ONLY use 'em when you're doing something everybody knows you will be doing anyway.
Speed: Limit: 50 km/h(city)->go 30; Limit: 30 km/h(residential area)->go 50; Limit: 100 km/h(country roads)-> go 130; Limit: none(Autobahn)-> go 130 too.
Makes me sick.

Here in America, there's some kind of popular urban legend that in Germany everyone drives their cars at 200 mph on all the roads, including residential ones :) Although, most of the German people that I've spoken to tell me that the increasing congestion on German expressways often makes going over 90 mph difficult. But at least you don't have to deal with agressive driving over there. Outside the U.S., people drive carefully if they have a large vehicle. In the U.S., people want large vehicles because they think that the road will be their playground and they will be free to squash whoever they want.

Here in Massachusetts, we have alot of people who like to stop in the rotary to let incoming traffic go... gotta love it when that happens

But yeah, dunno if the drivers can be considered terrible. But scary...my gf's cousin is friggin' insane (going ~50mph on a thin ass road near a cliff).

Women drivers? Sorry, but I think that women drivers drive better and faster than most men!

There are sucky drivers everywhere. Some places more than others, but you will have ignorant monkeys of drivers no matter where you go.

The women with cell phones in their mini-vans and SUVs piss me off the most... the reason I say women, is because most of the time I see people with cell phones in mini-vans/SUVs they are women.

How can you drive carefully and safely while paying attention to a phone call? You can't. The phone call takes a certain amount of attention and concentration - which is taken away from driving - which is bad!. :p

Driving over the speed limit should be no problem at all unless you prevent other users from going where they need to go or if you drive like a maniac (swerving, etc).

Drivers aren't horrible here, generally, but I've seen lots of crappy drivers. :)

No one's mentioned New Jersey drivers...

Florida has an epidemic, I'll agree. Coked up morons driving their motorcycles at 120 down the MacArthur Causeway and plowing into drunks in their BMWs...

Then you get to Miami Beach, where cubans in their cars drive at 5 MPH so they can howl at anything that has breasts and breathes.

no michigan is just full of bad drivers! I've lived in michigan my whole life, and have only seen drivers that are worse in two places, Boston, and Florida... Of course Boston is because of traffic laws, and Florida is all our old retired drivers who moved down there.
