Everytime I purchase something using my credit card, I sign them corretcly... however it seems that the retailer never checks that both signature matches.. hell what if someone steals my cc??

Also how does the DMV work with signatures?? do they keep signatures in a computer database somewhere? do they actually match signatures??

actually to think of it, using signature for bank records or DMV records is kinda stupid, they dont really keep a database to check the signature do they?

lets say someone else take my check and signs it.... the bank will have no idea that it is not my signature

From what I have observed, about half of the store clerks to check signatures.

I never sign my name on the back of credit cards. Why would any sane person give a thief a perfect example of their signature??????? Simpy leave it blank or write in "see ID", at least that way it forces them to check our Driver's License!!!!!!!

No retailer has checked my signature before, Some places I try to show them my ID but they just say since I signed the credit card / debit card theres no need but they dont check to see if my signature match the back of my card. Fry's is real bad at this, they'll swipe the card and after its been processed they may glance at my Drivers license but not long enough to see if the name on the card matches my ID

My bank used to check my ID until they got to know me... most banks do that I know of. They always have the little signs that say "Excuse us if we do not recognize you and ask for an ID", so I assume they check. Either way... it's protection for you if somebody signs a check and cashes it.. you can show the bank how the signature on the returned check doesn't match all the other checks you've signed.

As a person that is supposed to check for signatures, it is entirelly pointless. The vast majority of people do not sign their credit cards. If you refuse to accept a signaure or an unsigned card, your corporate office is sure to throw a fit about you because the customer themselves would throw a fit. As I said, pointless.

Signatures are bull! My parents once left me alone to take care of the house for 5 months while they went traveling. I had to pay the mortages and bills. At first i was real careful about forging my dad's signature for the bill checks. After a while I just started to sign casually. No one every bothered me. As long as retailers/comapnies get their money they dont ask questions. Only if there's a problem do they go back and look at it.

Credit Card checking seems to have become pretty slack nowadays...over here in the UK a lot of retail outlets do not check it...often young part time college type workers....

My friend accidentally signed one of his mums cheques.....and it cleared!

One of the funniest things that has happened to me was going to the post office with my unsigned cc and they forced me to sign the credit card there before they would allow me to pay with it

BTW they never ask me for my ID to verify the sig matched

Oh well at least the signature on the credit card and on the receipt matched!!!!:D
