Do people cheat in Unreal Tournament?

I know that I'm a pretty good UT player, but there are just some opponents that seem to be about 10 times better then me and I always wonder if they are cheating in some way. Is there a way to cheat in the game, or are they really just that much better then me?

there are some people who cheated, like using aimbot and auto-dodge, etc.

of course, some are much better players... you can always check how well you play by checking the UT stats and compare your rank with other players (you have to "register" by supplying a password that goes with your player name before joining multiplayer games)

i was doing ok back in those college days... now i'm thinking of going back and whoop some frags again :D i only play instagib -- most of the time on Xmission, ClanfatWestcoast, and some other good gib servers....

hey, maybe we (the AT ppl) should kick some AT-UT instead of AT-CS :D

Yes, there are cheaters in all games in one form or another. The best thing you can do to combat this problem is leave the server and find another one to play on. It's a sad fact that these cheaters will never be 100% defeated by any countermeasures by mod or game devs :(

It was less complicated in the days of Doom, I tellz ya!!

I hate to be naive, but how do people cheat? I have no doubt that they're doing it, but I have no concept how. Like nippyjun, I play pretty well. Most games I can hold my own, but then there are the games where I play against the people who can telefrag at will (which pi$$es me off more than anything). You know how frustrating it is to fire rockets all over someone who's jumping like a fool, only to have them hit you square in the teeth with one of their own. Are these people cheating, or just damn good?

I got accused of using an aim bot the other day and CSHP kicked me out of the game, which was rather irritating since I was missing most of my shots. :p

See here.

By the way, how consistent are the aim bots? The people Croda mentions do miss much more often when up against equally good players. Because of this I think 95% of them are just plain good and not using aim bots. Either that or else they're missing on purpose (assuming the aim bots are consistent).

i play mostly instagib and it's pretty obvious when someone's using it. to get an idea of how it works watch loque play vs the bots on the 'godlike' or 'inhuman' setting. he'll go on one killing spree after another, and most of the time his targets will be lucky to get a shot off. i saw a demo of a player using an aimbot (i believe there's a couple for UT) and it basically locks your gun onto a player until you kill them.

most of the time everyone on the server will start screaming at that player until they leave. or join the cheater's opposing team leaving him all by himself, that's always pretty funny.

yeah, i get this too sometimes too. i think it's a glitch with cshp.

hmm... i've never tried aimbots before... maybe i should give it a try and see how it works :)

<< i saw a demo of a player using an aimbot (i believe there's a couple for UT) and it basically locks your gun onto a player until you kill them.>>

so does it mean if you're aiming at a particular player, you'll be dead if there's another one next to him and aiming at you?

ping is also important in the game... i know i played better when i was using dsl, but 56k is not that bad once i can adjust to the timing and slowness of the game... ~250 is much better compared to ~350 when i was on aol though :Q

i've never got kicked by cshp before... but if it does kick you out, how long until you can join the game again (assuming you don't cheat so there's no "offending package" to be removed)? i did however got kicked several times by @hole admins because their "clan-mate" wants to join the game and it's currently full :|

TranceNation: i think i saw you for a while yesterday... i used to be HelloWorld, but now i'm re-training as Filia.ul.Copt ;) i need to pick up my skills -- they were lost a year ago... :(

Squeal, boy! Squeal! :D

yes, for the most part. i don't think it makes you invincible but pretty damn close. i'm actually not sure how it locks-on (or if it stays locked until you kill the other guy). i honestly couldn't tell from what i saw.

but i've become good enough so cheats would kill the fun. and i hope everyone here would agree with me on that.

it's hard to know unless you're playing instagib and the cheater is just railing you repeatedly with impossible shots (esp. while you're dodging or just after respawning). if someone is leading the game in kills and takes a few shots at you before they connect, you can assume they're not. again, see the link below.

i have been playing Tac Ops and it is pretty evident when someone is aimboting, getting consistant headshots no matter the distance, jumping or blind shooting. to me it is kinda difficult to get a head shot while moving and trying to correct for the gun recoil...and to have someone get a headshot while jumping and running is hard for me to believe, I know there is lucky but when you follow that person in ghost mode waiting for the next game, and they have several head shots while jumping like a jack ass then I conclude they are using one

I play with some really talented people on public servers. Some that are members from #1 ranked clan. Them sorta people can make you think they are cheating bad but really they are just plain AWESOME. Anyone including me can get in their groove and hardly ever miss. Sometimes you just have to respect the person instead of automatically thinking they are cheating.
