Try being a High School student dealing with FS/FT. That's how I was when I joined.

Um, most AT members were in HS when they joined.

Glad you got the point of the post

Exactly. Sure, some people will balk at it but its not like you're going to be banned for it. It just may be a little harder to move the item. Its not a written rule, its just a guideline some people follow. Ultimately both parties have to come to an agreement about what they feel comfortable with.

I'm new to the FS/FT area, and I've now shipped 3 items before recieving payment, and i've checked their heat (obviously they had more then me) and their AT accounts...why would someone go to all that work to buy a hundred dollar part, knowing that after that they will be screwed forever? i mean, they won't be able to come back.

Look at the top of the FS forum...see where it says "scammed by...." they wont ever sell here again...

I guess I just figure everyone started out somehow and the people on there must be trustworthy or they'd have been booted some time ago.

Heat is reliable...if you see all heat from noobs or within a couple days you know.

Try ebay if you are worried....or sell it locally.

If you have significantly more HEAT than me, I'll ship first. If you don't have much more or have less, you pay first.

And yes, I trust HEAT and I will ship. Worst case scenario, I'm ripped off and I lose a couple hundred dollars worth of stuff.

what's been a bit annoying to me lately and one of the main reasons i don't trade as much as i used to with people with few heat, people take offense to being asked to ship first.

hey, i tell them up front that it is my policy, if they don't want to ship first, i won't buy. simple, i'm not offended by it, why are they?

As long as they have been around a while and have more heat than me, I have no problems shipping first.

Back in the days I'd frequent the BST and Offtopic forums so much I got a good idea of who the regulars were, who were well regarded and made a name for themselves in terms of character and worthiness. Done deals with the same people more than twice, so that foundation of trust was already there and made for smooth sailings.

Even done deals where the seller would accept monthly payments from me as I didn't have the funds all there to take the laptop off his hands.

Have done group buys where I was helping another collect funds as he didn't have the means to collect electronically. This is the kind of trust we're talking about.

Like a small town where everybody knew their neighbours. It's not only heat we took into consideration, it was also the interaction and mutual respect we had for one another over common discussions outside of BST forum. You get a feel for what the other person(s) all about.

I think we'd all ship first to Rossman if we were trading with him. I mean if you can't trust the Grand Nagus who can you trust? :)

RossMan? Oh man, that guy's totally unbeleivable. So believable that he's unbelievable.
Before you come back from post office with your money order in the mail he'll have ransacked your home and taken your prized teddy bear. :p

You did gave him your address, remember?? :p
