do people actually ship product before reciept of payment?

So i've got a big fs/ft thread and had some offers on parts. a few people have asked that i ship parts before they pay for anything. does this make sense to anyone here? I mean, i can understand people are scared of losing their hard-earned cash, but i think the sellers are also scared of losing their parts they already paid for. the way i'm thinkin this through, if you buy something from me and i never ship it, you can contest to paypal and get most if not all of it back. and if nothing else it locks up my paypal account so no more transactions can be made. but, if i were to ship parts out and you just ran off with them, i'm screwed...

do people trust heat that much? i see people say they will ship first if someone's heat is better than theirs. seriously, how hard is it to fake heat 😵...

i suppose this should be in marketplace but i'm not buying/selling anything...so...?

And then you click through the links to user information and see how they're all linked?

Also, if they're all in the same day, or week even, that throws up huge red flags.

ok still..someone spends a year off and on to beef up their heat...

i just dont see how you people ship something without getting $$ first
would you walk into a retail store, tell them you have money, show them people who say you do, then expect them to give you something and you pay for it later 😵?

If you are not comfortable with the transaction, don't go through with it. I, personally, would not be comfortable with shipping first to someone I do not know.

However, if I have sold stuff to the same person in the past without any issue, shipping first becomes an option.

You're being paranoid.

You're more likely to get legitimately scammed through a stolen credit card or fake payment compared to someone spending a year pumping up heatware accounts.

And don't even try comparing it to a retail store. It's a completely different beast. There are huge levels of trust when it comes to dealing with people on FS/FT. But if you want to do that, it's called using a credit card. The store is assuming you won't file a chargeback and have it go through.

I'm sure someone with perfectly good HEAT would ruin it just to take some lil' item from you :eyeroll: HEAT is trustable because it's a community system, we can see the trusted members of our community and trade accordingly.

Um, that's pretty much the basis of credit cards... and the better your credit score(heat) the more stuff you can get. Not that difficult of a concept.

You have more heat then me, I ship first. You have less, you pay first.

Forget that.

I don't trade much anymore, but people with good heat can still rip you off.

I handle things on a case by case. I look at it this way... while neither one is EASY... money is recoverable more easily than a physical item. I won't send any item to any trader that I haven't dealt with before without payment. They're welcome to move along and not buy my goods if that's an issue.

Try being a High School student dealing with FS/FT. That's how I was when I joined.

It isnt easy to "beef up" a heat account. If you do a little due-diligence, and click through on some of the feedbacks, you can see whether or not the ratings are real or faked.

Hijacked Paypal account. Game, set, match.

Either way, you're taking a huge risk when you're a seller.

When I first started doing trading many years ago (first on other forums) it was the same.

Get a job you bum 😛

You are not required to ship first by any means. It's just a courtesy some new traders extend to senior traders with proven trading track record when they ship first. Again, you are not obligated to do it and if your gut feeling is telling you not to do it, don't.

I'd ask you to ship first.. 😛

I probably shipped first when I was new..I can't remember..it's been a while. 😱

If the trader asking you to ship first is either PurpleHippo, Danuhan, Skipholiday, Tates, Sundog, etc, then you might want to consider shipping first 😀

Like others have said, the way it goes here, low heat, ship first.
