Yea, they're expensive. It's hard to find polos that fit me well, as I wear a XXL. I never know if the polo is going to shrink to a much smaller size after a wash, so I never spend more than $30 on a polo anymore.

my summer wardrobe is almost exclusively Ralph lauren. Its one of the few brands that I like the fit of. Typically anything I bought RL has been durable lasting through multiple years/seasons and the clothing is stylish and appropriate for most places I go.

I had this problem with the cheaper brands. THe xxl's I buy that are RL I wash cold and air dry the first few washes. Never have a shrinkage issue. Same with my lacostes.

Our family owns a chain of dry cleaners and we laugh a little when people bring in these expensive clothes. 80% of them are made of such poor material but people think they're high quality because they're "name brand".

I think it's stupid too, but in some circles it's what is socially accepted. Most people aren't stupid enough to think the quality of really expensive clothes is better, most people just want the name or the brand. All the designer clothes I own I purchased at a 60% off reduced prices sale from a major upscale chain about two months ago. Basically, I paid normal prices for brand-name stuff.

I used to buy only Polo shirts, because they were the only style that fit me well. I bought a few at full retail price, but usually you can find sales and get them cheaper.

I've since switched to Banana Republic polos. They fit a lot better, feel more comfortable and are generally a lot cheaper. I picked up several of my polos for ~$20 on sale at BR I think.

My dress shirts are Brooks Brothers, and even at their full retail price they're absolutely worth it.

Personally, I wear Clabiorne for men almost exclusively. Though i buy in the off season, so buy the summer line right around the fall; they are usually 60% off. Jus bought some great stuff 60%, who is going to complain about a name brand dress shirt for $12.50?

I, also, like their Crazy Horse line. It's a pity that they just discontinued it. But they replaced with a line called Concept. Its not bad, but i liked Crazy Horse better.

but people have to pay that price so that people who wait can get them at basically cost. How do i know? When i worked at a department store, one shipment they left the invoice on the box (i'm sure by accident.). but the sweaters were MSRP at $80 and we sold quite a few at that price. The price on the invoice? $12. so, honestly i don't feel like a really getting a "deal" anymore. It's all about getting for little money as possible.

I have a lot of Nautica clothing that lasts longer than say Old Navy/Gap stuff. But i wouldnt pay that much for a shirt ever.

yes which is stupid, you can get just as nice polos at fing sears for like 25$, i got a bunch of Lands end ones there last week

and actually many department stores sell RL and other quality expensive brands for alot less then the direct store/site

the polo i have on ATM came from Old Navy, cost me 8$, 75% off woo woo

I've never seen a Polo shirt that I like. I do like a lot of the Calvin Klein shirts though. But I buy them off season, so I get them for $30 to $50 range. It's just some nice button ups that will look just as nice next year when I actually start to wear them. Calvin Klein is good because they have some slim/modern fit shirts that don't look like a balloon when you tuck them in.

Well I don't really wear polo shirts... at work it's button up shirt every day. The most I have paid for a button up dress shirt is about $75.00.

I could care less about brand names but the quality is better. You get what you pay for. If all you have ever wore is $12.00 button up shirts from Wal-Mart or Target then you have never wore a good shirt.

I stopped buying "cheap" (IE Wal-Mart/Target) clothes a few years back. The last straw was a shirt I got from Target for about $12.00. After TWO washes the color was faded and it was litterally unthreading itself - also upon further investigation the shirt was "crooked" and it fit funny.

I am not a clothing snob, but I believe you get what you pay for. I have $60-$75 dollar shirts that are five years old and they look/feel brand new...

Agreed. I don't buy super high quality, $120 shirts or anything, but there is a noticeable difference b/t Target and Old Navy vs BR or the "higher end" retailers.

The quality you get from a 80 dollar polo or other shirt from some of the name brands is excellent. They can last years and years without fading and the fabric still looks good and not worn. Well worth the money.

I've got some high quality golf shirts that probably cost 80-120, and they still look brand new 8+ years later.

if you want quality clothing - and im talking about construction quality, durability, shape retention, etc -- look at lands ends, ll bean, eddie bauer, etc... the "yuppie' east coast brands

I still have some t-shirts I got in 1995 that I wear regularly every year. They still look great. I love wearing my middle school track t-shirt, the printing is cracking some, but the fabric is great!

I've got some hand me down dress shirts I got from my dad that see weekly duty that aren't name brand and have probably been going for 17 years or more.

Are the $80 polos worth that price? I'd say no but I will say that these more expensive polo/shirts tend to last longer (less color fade and shrinkage) than cheaper ones.
