Do PCIe risers or extension ribbons affect GPU performance?

Contemplating a bizarre arrangement of a GTX670 in a small-ish case. Do risers (for example, to turn GPU 90 degrees) or ribbons slow down a GPU or affect them in other ways?

Furthermore, does distance matter? Meaning, stringing together multiple ribbons may weaken/slow down the speed of the data transfer thus screw up GPU performance?

Thank you very much. 🙂

I don't know if it applies to PCIe but I remember reading about AGP risers. They have no ill effect on performance up to the point of instability due to latency being unacceptable. How long is too long would need to be determined by experimentation, though with AGP risers it was possible to get 2-4 inches.

Using risers with high-end video cards is rather atypical, but no, I've never seen it have a measurable impact on performance.
