Do P4's need paired RAM?

I've owned AMD systems since the K5 so I apologize for my retardation.

I just bought my father a P4 2.2ghz system from dell and it uses pc2700 DDR ram. Obviously crucial ram is much cheaper than dell's ram so I want to upgrade that way, but I was wondering if I needed to get 1 or 2 chips.

AMD needs 2 modules to run at DDR speeds, are P4's the same way?

Thanks!!!

thats not true, amd only requires 2 sticks if u want to run it in DCDRR

intel is the same way, but the only mobos that support DCDDR are 865/875
