Do our troops fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq really need that much ammo?

Congress doesn't think so either.

I know tax revenues are down, and the war is a drain on the treasury... but these earmarks taken from the military were for many pet projects that could have waited.

Here the president is ordering more troops to Afghanistan and the money for them is being diverted. Not only are the troops being shorted on supplies... but training is being cut drastically.

As a combat vet I can say unequivocally that when you are playing with bad guys there is no such thing as too much ammo.

[From the story]

Mr. Wheeler, who conducted the study, compared the Obama administration's requests for funds with the $636 billion spending bill that the Senate passed. He discovered that senators added $2.6 billion in pet projects while spending $4 billion less than the administration requested for fiscal 2010, which began Oct. 1.

Wow. That Obama sure did request a lot of money for defense. He must really love freedom

Most likely that guy is the ammo bearer.

No, he carries the ammo for the guy who actually carries the belt fed weapon.

I'm surprised Craig didn't remember that from his stint in the military.

So the Democrats want to skimp on ammo, but the Republicans were bad guys for not buying everyone state of the art body armor?

Maybe he knew how to actually aim.

Just kidding

Of course they did. Innocent women, men and children are plenty in Iraq, there had to be a mass amount of bullets to take them out. And yeah, let's not forget these peoples pets.

Dog killing is typically the deployment highlight of those who would otherwise never fire their weapon. Some of my soldiers raised a dog since it was a tiny puppy for more than a year, then one day the CSM, making his first appearance on the outlying FOB in 6 months, flies in, and wastes no time in shooting their dog. Then brags about his Mossberg shotgun "18 shots, 18 dead dogs." Fucking toolbag. :(

No one has said anything about ammo besides the one who wrote the article and the nimrod who posted it.

There is no shortage of ammo and there will be no shortage of ammo in the next ten years, it's just that buying ammo for beyond 2019 now isn't a bright idea.

I'd say the food quality is going to go down the drain first, it always does and it's fucking stupid.

If i were to see a dog (or cat) near camp i'd shoot it. If you want to keep pets, stay at home.

There is never too much ammo during a war. It would be foolish not to provide an excess. Anyone who says otherwise is a brainless idiot. Everyone knows this.

I bet you'd hit it 3000 meters away with your trusty 30-06, fucking hero. Eat a dick, "sir."

No, son, eating dicks is what you do, i prefer pussy.

I don't give a sheit what you say about it but it's actually commonly ordered that no animal enters camp for more than one reason, i'll leave it up to you to figure it out but it has been posted and a Medic on this forum who had been in the area confirmed it.

It's nothing to brag about though, i'll agree with that.

dickofsheffield, that was mostly said for effect. This money is coming out of the operations and management budget.. which is where the money for things like ammo, training, parts, etc come from for the military. Most of the money for these projects that benefit the particular congressmen's constituents came from that portion of the budget.

We are expecting our troops to do the job... but when pilots don't get the flight experience or tank crews don't get a lot of actual tank training time that effects readiness.

"dickofsheffield"? Oh my, i'm dealing with a man of great wit here i see. What is next i wonder, i hope you can come up with something equally good.

A lot of SHEIT is said for effect and it becomes catch phrases and idiotic statements for those of little intelligence, be careful what you say and perhaps you won't be called on it by those who know better? Just a small tip, completely for free this time.

It's not going to affect training or parts either, training is done by other people who are already there and they are not going anywhere, parts are already stocked, what it comes down to is the everyday things.

I'm a Brit but i've been to both current theaters for several years and i know how this will work, some camp luxuries will have to go for the "cuddlers" and that is about it.
