I haven't messed with it myself due a general avoidance of WMP lo these many years but even if the latest version does include a VC-1 advanced profile DxVA decoder then the fact remains that content is rare apart from some discs which presumably WMP cannot play anyway but please correct me if the presumption is wrong.
QuickTime is not capable of DxVA.
Do not purchase PureVideo software as the only video decoder included is for olde timey MPEG-2 (DVD). Do purchase CyberLink PowerDVD if you want the best DxVA of VC-1, AVC and MPEG-2 HD content. Upgrade from free/cheap OEM versions where possible to save some scratch versus buying a full version outright.
GF7 series cards are quite good at DxVA. See product feature comparison. An undocumented requirement is SSE2.
interesting. acc. to that chart, the 6150 supports accel. for hidef h264, vc1, wmv9, and mpeg2. I have powerdvd 7. when I turn on h/w accel and try to play a vc1 clip, it just crashes. ditto some quicktime h264 trailer. using forceware 93.81. Thinking of getting a 7600gt or 7900gs (for light gaming too). Can someone confirm hw accel. for hd codecs DOES work with these cards?
