Do not talk to cops, particularly if you have nothing to hide.

care to share some of those tips?

Something that helped my uncle: he was pulled over for speeding in Middle of Nowhere, TX and just as his was about to issue the ticket, the cop noticed a rosary around the rear view mirror. The cop asked if my uncle was Catholic, and since he's Protestant he couldn't say yes, but my (Catholic) aunt spoke up and the cop tore up the ticket. If you're an atheist, you could attempt a variety of religiously-charged decorations and try your luck.

Biggest one is being non threatening. Yes we understand you're pissed off for being questioned or being pulled over. Suck it up, roll down your windows, hands on steering wheels and no weird movements. A degree of Honesty also works. I mean, don't claim that you weren't speeding when you were clearly going 20 above the limit. Also don't bother with the radar argument. They smartened up to this and is barely admissible anymore as a valid argument.

If you storm up to a police officer, thats not a good sign to him.

Weird hand motions, he's going to take more of a defensive attitude.

Police are people too.

On campus, people think police are dicks. But that's because college kids tend to be dicks to police alot more than police to kids.

The one tip i can offer...

If you are being accused by someone of doing something... and there are NO witnesses or recordings...

Don't admit to anything. DENY it all. Feign stupidity and innocence.

They have to PROVE you did it.

Until you are actually arrested you would look like an idiot doing that.

In most situations, you'd want to do what guyver suggested. 9 times out of 10 if the cop isn't arresting you right off the bat, he has nothing concrete.

If you ADMIT to it, then he has what he needs to make the arrest. At that point it's best to shut your pie hole and ask to talk to a lawyer before going any further.
