"Do Not Call" list is good for telemarketers

The act of telemarketing has a huge failure rate. Maybe 1 in 10 people even listen to the telemarketer, and a lot fewer than that actually buy something.

Now, doesn't it stand to reason that the people who went to the trouble to get on the Do Not Call list, are the people who were just going to hang-up on the telemarketer anyway?
So by focusing on the people who DIDN'T get on the list, the telemarketers should have a higher sucess rate, and waste less time making cold calls to people who won't listen!

It seems to me like this makes their job easier, and I don't see why they would fight it.

Anyway.... I agree with the poster.... if you take the time to get put on the do not call list, you would probably hang up 99.9% of the time anyway, or try to waste there time (like I do)

I don't need someone calling me to tell me I need to buy something. If I have a need I go get it, if I don't I don't get it. I think telemarketing companies should be banned. I know you have to think of the employees they are just doing their jobs. Doesn't matter to me. I should at least be able to choose if I want to receive the calls not have to opt out!

If I wanted to buy something, I'll call you. You just advertise and I'll be happy, until then they should stop disturbing the peace. Agreement like what TMP said.

Good point, although like a fly to a bright light, some of us 60 million may have, or have bought in the past, something, even if we hate telemarketers.

Gosh, I hope not. Once a telemarketer called me and offered me something that I actually wanted! But I turned them down as a matter of principle, because I don't support this form of marketing. Then I went out and made the purchase on my own.

If you want telemarketers to go away, you can't ever support them.
