Actually I thought I read where the goverment was going to make a deal with a tax software company to give a free version. Its a good plan for the goverment because it could probably save them tons in the long run.

You might as well say Half-Life was spyware, cause it installed "Sierra Utilities" which didn't automatically uninstall with Half-Life.
Well that's kind of retarted to say. I have steered away from Sierra for that reason but at least Sierra does not auto-run every time I boot and reside in memory, hogging resources and slowing my system down...PERMANENTLY.

That's where we got ours. Didn't open yet so may take it back if we don't hear of a way to disable this Macrovision garbage.

Damn, after 4 years I had my turbotax time down to just a couple of hours. Now I have to learn a new package. But i heartily agree with the sentiments above. I've written my nasty email and I urge you to do the same.

Intuit doesn't realize that the majority of people go to a small minority for advice and support regarding software purchases. Piss off that community and all you do is hurt sales. Let's prosthelytize the message. get out there and convince people NOT to but Intuit products till the product activation is removed. I know I will.

It probably won't be too long before you hear those hip-hop e-file commercials on all of the radio stations again.

Sometimes, when people buy books, they will sell it at a garage sale or to another friend. The same goes with computer games. Selling something you own is legal, and I thought it applied to software. So, what would happen if you sold your Tubo Tax software to your friends? Is that legal? Or is there restrictions within the software license? Or does the law protect the consumer that allows him to sell it to his friends? Inquiring minds want to know.

you cannot itemize deductions on the web :(

I already bought TT from the Staples promo, have not installed it yet.

My PC is due for a format/reinstall anyway......guess I'll do my Tax Filing first

Crap :|

I installed TT New Years day. I have read everthing in here and im really PISSED!

I checked my running processes and CDAC11BA.EXE is listed without turbo tax running and taking up 112K of RAM. With Turbo Tax running it is using 892K of RAM.

When I shutdown Turbo Tax it stays at 892K. It will not release any RAM until I shutdown and restart. And on the restart its back down to 112K. :| :| :| :| :| :|

time to fire off an email....

I found this interesting.

FROM TURBO TAX WEBSITE:

If I upgrade my hardware, do I need to purchase another license for TurboTax?

In most cases, no. If you completely overhaul your computer hardware, TurboTax may need to be reinstalled and reactivation will be required. However, in most cases, reactivation will take place without needing to contact Intuit, because the random element of your original Request Code, which is non-identifiable, is stored (in encrypted form) on your computer.

So what happens 3-4 years from now when we will be running new 5Ghz Machines? will we have to BUY another license?

Can't you end the thread in task manager? Yes, that's not something that you should have to do, but is it possible? And then go into the Adminstrator properties and stop it from running at startup?

I would bet not many people actually know how to shutdown/uninstall a service. Even if they do, not many have to nerve to shut it down when they are not sure what it is. But yeah, I think you can remove them.

Yea you can do that, but when you fire up Turbo Tax it starts the service. If you disable the service and fire up Turbo Tax, it will re-enable the service and start it. :|

Turbotax is only good for the year you buy it anyway. Next year you cannot just upgrade you have to buy a complete new program - which also SUCKS!

I don't mind buying a new program every year. It doesn't cost that much for the time it saves me. What I do mind is the possibility that I cannot get to my older tax information if I need to without paying for the program again. Or, it might even be impossible if Intuit decides they no longer support the version I need to use.
