Update:they like to bait and switch on you, will never get what is advertised.. changing to no, thanks I'll wait they'll just cancel your order... products often defective and if you sent in for exchange, it will be sent back to you.. talking on the phone they will say replace with something else(lies!).. Freakin' worst merchant I have ever dealt with!
price is sometime a little cheaper then elsewhere but that is where it ends and hell break loses when dealing with their RMA crap that was the worst so far..big mistake buying from these liars pants on fire .
In short, they have a short fuse and customer satisfaction is nonexistence.

Ugh... they like to tack things on, don't they? You have to click "no" to about $150 worth of garbge before you order it. Seems like they try to get people to pay for more than they want.

these are the "BB" versions... those are the loud ones if I recall.
Still not at bad deal for the $ though for cheap storage in server or something of the like.

Is there much of a performance difference between the 2MB and the 8MB drives? I'm looking for one to either use as a extra backup drive (internal) or to shove into an external enclosure to use also as a backup.

quietness is more important, a noisy hd with 8mb buffer will do you no good.
the difference between 2mb and 8mb version is negligible. like 2mb version benched 33,000 on sandra
and 8mb benched 34,000 no big deal right?

Why would you buy this drive as opposed to the Staples 160gb Maxtor 8mb buffer for $89, especially since no where on this page does it state it is a retail drive?

Because it's a Seagate. They're suppose to be quieter (?) and are more reliable than Maxtors. But yeah, the Staples deal is also good.

man that is so low of them. and i was thinking about picking up one of HD's from these guys but now i don't think so.

This pretty much will be my last time dealing with this company whose money making scheme is making the customer pay for defects intended to screw you as a new customer everytime.
cold as ice ;disgust;

Now they change from seagate to major brand??? very shady.. cause they don't really have that WD for sale or is suppose to be sold at a higher price.
WTF is up with pyscho depot lunatic behavior??? I hope they go out of business:brokenheart:

Am I the only one to think that these _two_ threads both belong in the brag&moan forum? Yes, this is obviously a crappy company, and they probably will go out of business, but...

Just my 2c
