Is the fact that Israel is knocking on Arafat?s office door in Ramallah with loaded assault rifles constitutes a simple message; ?to hell with what the world thinks; we?re sick and tired of your incitement of suicide bombers and we?re not going to give you any freshly charged cellular batteries so you can incite even more terror to boot!? And finally, President Bush is sending Arafat is own homespun message from Crawford, Texas this morning, ?Arafat doesn't need a phone call from me.? But what will it take before the news media, Colin Powell and the United Nations finally wake up and smell the plastic explosives and realize that this is about the terror and nothing else!
Yet, we have a Secretary of State working desperately with Secretary-General Kofi Annan to salvage the political fortunes of Yasser Arafat, who in an interview with Al Jazeera television now says, ?I hope I will be a martyr.? Like the many younger Palestinians he has turned into Kamikaze bombers, he too seeks the very same end game. Is this a man who believes that we should ?give peace a chance? as John Lennon would say? No!
Yet, both Powell and Annan seem determined to follow former British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain who promised ?Peace For Our Time,? after signing the Munich Accords with Adolf Hitler. Meanwhile, Annan is leading the United Nations down the same failed policy path as that which caused the League of Nations to fail.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Why The Media Is Unwittingly Killing Innocent People
Arafat is a master showman, and he has injected verbiage into the whole crisis. Regardless of which network or cable news channel you watch the reporters, commentators and pundits keep repeating their ?cycle of violence? mantra. What cycle?
This is a linear trial-and-error process. If this doesn?t work, then try that. If going the political route means making Israel a genuine offer that it can finally live in peace within its borders is unattractive, send in the bombers and blame it on them because the media eats it up.
The result of this is that a lot of innocent people on both sides are dead because the media with its ?cycle of violence? mantra perpetuates a sense of hopelessness that plays directly into the hands of those perpetrating the violence!
The fact is that Israel is finally doing something it should have done all along; it has put the security of its people above world opinion. Americans would demand no less of their country, nor would Russians, the Chinese or anyone else for that matter.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It?s About the Terror ? Dummy!
While the media plays into the hands of the terrorists with it?s naïve love for its hackneyed ?cycle of violence? mantra which destroys all hope for the future, Annan is leading the United Nations down the failed path of appeasement that destroyed the League of Nations. Along the way, he might even get a chance to waive hello to Powell who is determined to prove that Chamberlain was right for signing the Munich Accords with Hitler because appeasing terrorists can work given the right man at the helm.
The sooner the Palestinian people learn terror and suicide bombers are not the way to peace, the sooner the more moderate voices in the community will come forward and make a peace that Israel and the world are eager to see.
However, as long as Arafat remains in power, his two-faced lies, incitement and terror policies will continue to flourish in the potting soil of appeasement. In the process, more innocent lives on both sides will continue to be lost as well-intentioned fools like Powell and Annan meddle continuously to protect Arafat?s terror policies. Worse yet, their meddling will only provoke an even greater chance of a regional conflict.
Instead of the meddling, they both need to let Israel deal with the terror threat. Once that is accomplished, they should then step in and hold everyone?s feet to the political dialogue fire for a deal that will give Palestinians and Israelis a way to live in peace and prosperity together.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Next week, America will see if Secretary of State Colin Powell is an honest proponent of the Bush Doctrine, as first stated on November 6, 2001 by President George Bush -- "You're either with us or against us in the fight against terror." The fact is nobody is certain what he will do. But if Powell goes to the Middle East and plays appeasement cowboy to Arafat instead presenting a clear and unequivocal anti-terror message, then he needs to step down before he embarrasses the present administration by his gullibility. But regardless of whether or not Powell chooses to buckle to terrorist rhetoric and intimidation, Israel must not withdraw IDF forces until he has achieved a clear victory against terrorism. Yet, President Bush must demand that Israel do exactly that.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Why Bush Must Demand an Immediate Israeli Withdrawal
Up till now, President Bush has largely kept Colin Powell out of the Middle East dispute because as the media pundits point out; he is more interested in being adored by his pro-Arab State Department wonks, than in loyally promoting the strategic political aims of his President.
But if you strip it down to the bare brass, the main problem with Colin Powell is that he doesn?t have what it takes to tell terrorists, ?this is where the cow chews the cud,? as pithy Texans are so fond of saying. This is because when it comes to Yasser Arafat, Powell?s record clearly shows that he doesn?t even know where the grass is, let alone who or what is going to chew it.
However, Powell is President Bush?s Secretary of State and this is why Bush must demand that Israel withdraw immediately. This is because Powell is to Bush what Peres is to Sharon.
In the case of Peres, it took 18 months of bloodshed before he finally admitted that Arafat, a man he directly helped come to power, is an enemy of Israel after all and now he supports Sharon in finally dealing with Israel?s great terror threat ever.
Yet, Powell is still not ready to admit what Peres has and is still arguing the case for Yasser Arafat and in doing so is tearing at the very fabric of the Bush Doctrine. Consequently, everyone is wondering out loud about Bush and his policy aims.
Why is Powell become a weak link for President Bush? He has never been tested by an election and consequently never learned one of the cardinal rules of politics ? ?you dance with who brung ya? bubba!? Consequently, he?s proceeding on the basis that he was elected by State Department employees and is not answerable to the will of the public.
Frankly, what America really needs a Secretary of State who has been tested by the electoral process, like New York mayor Rudy Giuliani, Time Magazines Person of the Year for 2001.
Giuliani understands that certain principles are inviolate and not subject to relativism. Last October, he rejected a $10 million donation from a Saudi nephew of King Fahd after he said that America should "re-examine its policies" in the wake of the attacks on New York and Washington on 9-11. Giuliani recognized the moral equivalency linkage of the gift, and refused it on the basis that there could never be a justification for the terrorist attacks. Had Colin Powell been in Giuliani?s shoes, he would have quietly pocketed the check.
But then there are all the other reasons why the IDF should pull back, such as another oil embargo. Forget an embargo. The oil producing states know that even a 30-day symbolic gesture embargo will cost them dearly as there are now plenty of other oil exporting states waiting in the wings with ample supplies of oil. If they pull another embargo, the US will likely switch oil suppliers on a permanent basis and we?re the biggest oil importers in the world.
Ah yes, then there is the Arab street and the protests all around the world. What is really interesting is that you only see Arabs protesting in France and other European states. They?re also burning Synagogues in these European states, but you seldom see that on the TV, or in passing. As to the Arab street in the Islamic countries, didn?t we see them get boiling mad before we went into Afghanistan? Now what are they saying about Afghanistan and how we?re bringing hope to that those Muslims just as we?re doing with the Muslim in Bosnia and Kosovo. OK, so none of that counts when some yahoo at CNN flips on a camera and everyone starts performing for the camera. We get the picture.
Aw please, can we just cut through the hype.
Colin Powell?s trip to Israel next week is not about Arafat, an oil embargo, European angst, or the Arab street.
For Colin Powell it is own Hail Mary chance to ride in on a white horse and to ?stabilize? the situation, which brings us to why the administration has demanded that Sharon recalls his IDF forces from the West Bank.
In order for Powell to have leverage for a meeting with Arafat, he has to go into negotiations without any preconditions on the cease-fire. This is why Bush has called for an IDF pullout before a cease-fire can be negotiated. We have to keep the spotlight on Arafat?s cease-fire preconditions ? as opposed to those of his own administration or Israel.
But back at home; the American public will be watching things from a different perspective.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Like the Israelis, Americans are also tired of Arafat?s perpetual demagoguery that goes nowhere while innocent people die. This is why Americans will focus their scrutiny on Colin Powell next week.
Do they think he can magically pluck peace from Arafat?s boiling cauldron of terror? No.
What Americans will be looking at next week is a simple issue that has begun to nag the nation more-and-more as time passes: Is Colin Powell a good wartime consigliere?
If Powell delivers a strong message to Arafat based on the Bush Doctrine, that terror will not be tolerated any more, he will be politically immune to Arafat?s fate because Arafat is growing more irrelevant each day this goes on. If Powell does this, he will likely be seen as a fair to adequate wartime consigliere.
However, Colin Powell has an appeasement vision that is 180 degrees out of sync with the Bush Doctrine. One would think that he?d listen to National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice. Perhaps it is one those White House rivalries we always hear about, but Rice is right and Powell is wrong. Why, because history is on Rice?s side.
Arafat knows Powell?s view and will surely play this to his advantage in the desperate hope he can use Powell to extricate himself out of his own self-induced morass. After that, he will regroup, break every promise and treaty made, and resume his campaign of terror and his television minions keep asking, ?Why would someone want to be a suicide bomber?? By the way, despite the howling and screaming of Arafat and his TV minions, the fact is that the Muslims of Bosnia and Kosovo suffered horrible ethnic cleansing and never once resorted to suicide bombing.
The bottom line is this: If Arafat can con Powell, and keep in mind that this is exactly what Americans fear, there no big win for Powell that will vindicate his outmoded vision. There can never be a big win with Arafat. Just go ask former President Bill Clinton.
When this happens, Powell will have thrown red meat to the terrorists and America will it as clear as day. At that point, President Bush will either have to go shopping for a new Secretary of State with the brass to be a good wartime consigliere, or take a lot of heat for Powell who many TV pundits are already calling a serious weak link in the Bush administration.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Why Israel Must Not Withdraw Regardless of Bush?s Demand
So let?s see if we got this right. The purpose of Powell?s visit next week is to stabilize the situation. So what?s to stabilize?
While MSNBC's Ashleigh Banfield is busy interviewing LIVE Palestinians in the West Bank hunkered down in their apartments, she forgets to mention that she has run out of DEAD Israeli women and children to videograph in the last few days because the IDF has put a real wrinkle in the effectiveness of Arafat?s suicide bombers.
At the moment, Israel is at war with the terrorists and there is only one way to win. Either you eliminate them or they will eliminate you. At least that is what Bush told us before we began bombing Afghanistan. So why when Israel has the terrorists on the run just America is doing the same in Afghanistan does it make sense to give them a chance to regroup and for what -- to talk peace?
When fighting a war, you must not give your enemy a chance to regroup. You must keep up the pressure. Or in the words of the General most feared by the Nazis during WWII:
General George S. Patton, Jr.
3rd Army speech
England, 31 May 1944
6th Armored Division
I don't want to get any messages saying that we are holding our position. We're not holding anything, we'll let the Hun do that. We are advancing constantly, and we're not interested in holding onto anything except the enemy. We're going to hold onto him by the nose, and we're going to kick him in the ass. We're going to kick the hell out of him all the time, and we're going to go through him like crap through a goose. So why should Israel ignore Bush?s demand that they withdraw their forces? Take General Patton?s words of wisdom and substitute the word ?Hun? with ?Hamas, Hezbollah, Islamic Jihad and Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades.?
For liberal intellectuals, this is too simplistic. This is why are we arguing with success, and moving to halt it. So why? Because we?re missing the big picture! Welcome to WWIII, and as the grunts used to say in Vietnam, ?you?re in the sh!t now.?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We?re Already in WWIII
Yes, we call it the War on Terror, but like it or not, WWIII started on 9-11. Who knows, perhaps we prefer the title War on Terror for the same reason the Russians chose to call WWII the Great Patriotic War. But whatever you want to call it, this war will take at least a decade if not two to win.
For us to be in denial about this is like those who gleeful said, ?Oh Hitler is so happy now that he has Poland so no worries folks, he?ll stay put now. To think otherwise is to be a pessimistic militarist.?
But what is the real truth about the opening days of WWIII?
Military tacticians will tell you that you can plan as much as you want for a war, but that once it starts you have to pretty much throw away the book and take things as they come.
So how does this apply to Arafat? It is obvious is that Arafat is the leader of a corrupt regime and has begun using the Palestinians as a spearhead for a loose coalition of Islamists, terrorists and terror supporting states. We?re talking about the Axis of Evil, and Arafat is in it up to his keffiah (the traditional Arab head-dress.)
After winning a string of stinging skirmishes against the Clinton administration, the Islamists were emboldened enough to begin planning their 9-11 attack even before the Camp David talks held by Clinton, Barak and Arafat.
The day after 9-11, Arafat donated blood in a Gaza hospital for the victims of 9-11, and then four days later while America was burying its dead, ordered the shedding of innocent blood in Israel contrary to every agreement he has signed at Oslo.
In documents recently obtained by the IDF in Ramallah and now being vetted by the US, it is clearly shown that Arafat funded Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades suicide bombers and terrorists.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Why Powell Could Have Innocent Blood On His Hands
The whole lesson here in this article is simple. Israel was so desperate for peace that it abandoned its principle of never giving in to terror, and the Labor Party which is now a mere shadow of its former self, made a pact with a man who has always been an enemy of Israel.
On September 13, 1993, President Clinton, who presided over the signing off the Oslo Accords, Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin and PLO Chairman Yasser Arafat watched as Foreign Minister Shimon Peres and PLO official Abou Abbas formally signed the agreement.
After the signing, President Clinton, said, "Today marks a shining moment of hope for the people of the Middle East; indeed, of the entire world."
So what has become of these people?
Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin was assassinated in 1995 by an Israeli extremist who felt that he had betrayed Israel at Oslo. Moral issues aside, time has proven the assassin to be correct.
Arafat humiliated President Clinton and Labor Party Prime Minister Ehud Barak, at the failed Camp David talks.
Clinton?s legacy is sucking air. His pronouncement at the signing of the Oslo accord will be forgotten. However, his statement ?I didn?t have sex with that woman,? will be cherished by future historians.
Shimon Peres who was Israel?s Foreign Minister then and now has finally acknowledged that Arafat is a dead end. Of course, this hasn?t benefited the political fortunes of former Prime Minister Ehud Barak who has recently seen the light and is now calling Arafat a murdering terrorist and an enemy of the State of Israel.
If Colin Powell has his way, Arafat will get another bite at the apple next week. It seems that the only two men to come out of this with their power intact is the Arafat the terror monger and Peres, his devotee. It seems that appeasement always works for those who lead their people to terror, and for a few of those who lead their people to appeasement.
Now that Israel is paying a terrible price for violating its own version of the Bush Doctrine, here comes Colin Powell to prove that he can succeed where Israel?s Labor Party failed.
But all he is going to do by railing against the Bush Doctrine is to repeat history and in the process of educating Powell, a lot of innocent people will be killed in both Israel and America.
Yes you heard it right. If Colin Powell appeases Arafat in Ramallah next week, God only knows how man Americans will die because of his ego-driven attempt to save Arafat. Mark my words on this.
