I am guiding a friend on how to set up an MP3 player so she can transfer music.

"First, plug it into the USB port"

"What?..."

My comment is that I've told her multiple times... She = lost cause.

"why doesn't my sounds work?"

We were hanging out over there....

Well, it only pisses me off when they pretend to be experts (muAHAHA! My 2.8 celly beats your xp2000, you nube), but otherwise, it's just fun. It's also a way to make friends and monies.

I'd much rather have someone ask "What's a USB port" than to just say "OK", and wedge it into an ethernet jack at a funky angle, which I've seen before.

Phone cord in the ethernet jack is particularly a good one - I've seen it short out the phone cable and make the house phone appear dead.

That one took some figuring out.

only if they don't show a willingness to learn (ie: rather than researching a problem and trying to figure it out for themselves first, they give up at the first sign of difficulty and demand that you do it for them).

I agree. Improper comma usage pisses me off too.

Example:
Correct-
I hate poor spelling, improper comma usage, and stupid people.
Incorrect-

This is the reason we play with shapes when we are kids and try to stick them in their proper holes. We learn that a square block won't fit into the circular hole, and that the triangle one fits into the pointy hole, and vice versa and etc. Apparently most people lose this capacity when they grow up and can't figure out for themselves what port a small rectangle fits into.
